The Killers emerged in 2004 with a more pop-friendly version of the post-punk revival sound of Franz Ferdinand, the Rapture, et al., and their combination of arena-sized guitar-pop, candy-colored dance-rock, and Robert Smithian vocals (de rigueur for their peer group) made them stars. Three albums down the line, they prove to be more than a flash in the pan on SAWDUST. Something of a grab-bag, the album contains their cover of Joy Division's "Shadowplay" (used in the biopic CONTROL), as well as a tune from the Spider Man 3 soundtrack ("Move Away"). They also pay tribute to less obvious influences with straightforward, unironic covers of Dire Straits' "Romeo and Juliet" and Kenny Rogers's "Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town." The Killers commune with their elders in a more visceral--albeit equally unexpected--way at the start of SAWDUST on "Tranquilize," where they're joined by none other than Lou Reed.

Rolling Stone (p.84) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[I]t's hard to deny Brandon Flowers' melodic gifts, which fuel catchy uptempos like 'Under the Gun' and 'Where the White Boys Dance'..." Entertainment Weekly (p.131) - "Brandon Flowers shines...on both the deranged 'Tranquilize' and the haunting 'Sweet Talk'....Gratifyingly great." -- Grade: B Uncut (p.91) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "SAWDUST...might just be their defining document....The brooding 'Tranquilize' drafts in Lou Reed and displays an untapped understatement that could yet be the making of them." Q (Magazine) (p.118) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "'Tranquilize' has a sinister ambience and a pronounced art-rock sensibility." Sawdust Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews i've been tranquilized i would like to point out that this is not an official studio album. the overall body of work on this album consist of songs from the "Hot Fuss" and "Sams Town" sessions. "Sawdust" is a great collection of songs that did not make onto their 1st and 2nd album. it blows me away how many great songs the killers wrote for hot fuss and sams town. anyway, its a great album and full of songs that could of been singles. too many great songs to name but if you love "hot fuss" and "sams town" then you'll dig this album. Just Plain Fun Music This is one of my personal favorite records of all time. How could you not love an album with a musical rendition of Romeo and Juliet. I hope one day these guys will play in my cafe. Submitted by aaron.holtzlander (Murfreesboro,TN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.

Notice: Not a compilation, to boot! "Sweet Talk" seems to buff the 'sweet' tooth in all of us on this release. 'Wish what you could use as singles' serves more than just a compilation that I listen here in full effect. The sessions done in 'Hot Fuss' are much better in comparison than 'Sam's Town' which I consider was both insipid and uninspiring. "When You Were Young" seems to be a song that was left hung in the air as the climax. But this? It's left as what is picture perfect moments captured in time. This is what you do in the interim and that's perfect with the exception of slight flaws of cover tunes presented here (Yikes!) Haven't you guys noticed? I hope you've noticed by now... this is only a B-Sides and Rarities cd...
Why would they release an album as such? This album is great, the lyrics beat Sams Town and Hot Fuss... and they have improved in thier music talent. Only if some of you could tell the difference. Sawdust CD music
$11.39 The debut CD/EP of Lil' Keesha is a collection of 6 songs that showcases the phenomenal vocal abilities (4+ octaves) of Lil' Keesha, a teenage, senior high school honor student, the CD is titled, -- 'The PRODIGY'.She recently landed a guest starring role on the long running CBS award-winning, daytime drama series The Bold & The Beautiful, (most watched worldwide: 140 countries, 135 million daily viewers), singing a song from her debut CD, the song is titled, "Heaven Knows", and was written by former Michael Jackson producer and musical director, Samm Brown III. The episode will air Monday, July 30, 2007, 12:30 pm (PST). Check your local listings for time and channel. The CD opens with a remake of the 1978 Oscar and Grammy Award winning song 'Last Dance', which was a #1 hit for disco diva Donna Summer. A music critic from The Atlanta Rhythm Times had this to say: "The first single from teenage Lil' Keesha’s appropriately titled EP: 'The PRODIGY' is 'LAST DANCE', (3:17 Radio Edit). The 1978 Oscar and Grammy Award winning #1 song originally sung by dance diva Donna Summer was written by Paul Jabara, and is ably produced by Samm Brown III, (Michael Jackson, Maxine Nightingale). This version of the pop/dance classic is true to the original, but that’s where the similarities between this 2006 remake and the 1978 original end. Lil' Keesha’s explosive 4 plus octave range is on full display here and is shown in the opening 2 bar riff that shadows the original but then repeats full out, an octave higher. From there it is a hellacious, fun romp with her vocal pyrotechnics leading the way. The song ends with her incredible voice soaring in a dramatic glissando to an octave higher than the Summer original. You’ll be shaking your head in disbelief. You’ll just have to hear it to believe it!" The rest of the CD:2. 'Anxious' ...
| | Annie Cretsinger Just As I Am CD (2007)
Sawdust music CDs
$10.15 REVIEWSBy chance, I ran across Annie Cretsinger’s music/blog/photo page on myspace. It turned out to be a happy accident that I’m thankful for. I’ve known Annie for awhile, she and I were members of the worship team at RiverCity Community Church in Westport. From her myspace page, I was excited to learn that she had recently finished a CD project she titles “Just As I am”. I was anxiously looking forward to listening to her new musical ideas. I knew that she had a crystal voice and gift to communicate but I was soon to learn that she is a unique and compelling writer and pianist. Her music is original, artistically refreshing and provocative. I gave up on “mainstream” Christian music long ago but Annie’s new work makes me completely rethink this and gives me hope about what’s happening in this genre. Thankfully, there’s no “over-production” here. Simplicity rules; just piano accompaniment and Annie’s unique and refreshing voice rendering soulful, contemplative and sincere worship. Her versatile piano skills truly partner with her tender and sincere vocal style and is worth listening to in it’s own right. “Just As I Am” is a flowing piece that sounds at once like poetry but soon the chorus turns and brings you face to face with Annie’s deepest thoughts on life and the surrender we all must lose to the Savior to truly know His rescue. No doubt we have all mouthed these words (or something very similar) in prayer. Perhaps many times, over and over again. Annie has captured this heartfelt truth and emotion in melody and rhythm. There are songs so brilliant that they instantly force you to remember and memorize the chorus melody. “The Bridge Is Out” is one of ...
