| | Taylor Swift Fearless CDs (2008) With DVD; Bonus Tracks; Special Edition
Rise music CDs
$13.99 Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success of her self-titled 2006 debut, there's nothing at all diva-like about Swift on FEARLESS: she's soft-spoken and considerate, a big sister instead of a big star. Nowhere is this truer than on "Fifteen," a kind warning for a teen to watch her heart sung from the perspective of a woman who's perhaps twice that age--a sly trick for the 18-year-old Swift. There may be a hint of youthfulness to her singing but that's the only hint of girlishness here; her writing--and she had a hand in penning all 13 tracks here, with six of them bearing her solitary credit--is sharply, subtly crafted and the music is softly assured, never pushing its hooks too hard. Like many country-pop albums of the 2000s, the pop heavily outweighs the country--there aren't fiddles here, there are violins--yet the ...
| | Carrie Underwood Play On CD (2009)
Rise songs
$12.95 Daisy in her hair aside, Carrie Underwood looks flat-out glamorous on the cover of PLAY ON, which is a pretty fair indication of what awaits listeners on her third album. Carrie is still nominally a country artist and sometimes will sing supported by fiddles and steel guitar, but this is crossover pop pure and simple, whether it's the thundering rhythms on the Shania-styled strut "Cowboy Casanova" or the succession of maudlin melodies on the preponderance of power ballads. Carrie takes a much stronger presence as a writer here, co-authoring seven of the 13 songs, and she's ...

| | Dave Alvin King Of California CD (1994)
Rise music CDs
$10.69 For his fourth album, 1994's KING OF CALIFORNIA, Dave Alvin mixed new songs with selections revisited from his back catalog, as well as numbers first recorded with his previous band, The Blasters. The setting is a pared-down acoustic ensemble perfectly suited to his songs of the downtrodden, the lovelorn and the lost--all tempered with a sense of hope. The title track is a perfect example of Alvin's finely crafted tales of the working class dreaming of sunnier climes. Bobby Lloyd Hick's brushed snare beautifully echoes the literature of the lyrics.

Rise songs
$16.49 How many times can you break one heart before the pieces are unrecognizable, too small to be put back where they came from? If it has been broken enough, a heart can be shaped. I answer questions. I show you different ways to think about the things you thought you had figured out. I ask the questions you need to find the answers to. I tell my stories. I tell your stories, one person at a time. You will understand if you know how it feels to be the person I wrote my song for. Otherwise make my music your own and enjoy the groove.HandsIf I let me, I could crumble Four fingers of one hand in the dam, The other, a crazy hand on the glueKind of trying not to think of youIf you called my name, I might let goYour pieces of me would be where, who knowsWhich could be heaven sent, or a bad experimentOne hand is driving and shifting, racing alongThe other writing and sifting in fits and startsWhat's left of my thoughtMy mind is being crushed by my heart, words dashed on the dashBroken apart like me, with me, by me, inside me, for youPlease, thank God, even if I lose and I'm Spent and spilled and poured out for nothing but loveI am held in the palm of One greater than IAnd the spot my puddle makes, will not go completely unnoticedMy music is an honest reflection of my ideas, thoughts, feelings and emotions. Every song is about someone that I care about. Every song is about a time, a place, and a person, that lives in my heart. I have poured myself into the words and music to communicate truth, connect with the world and share a positive message when I can. It is meant to be entertaining, but you can find more than entertainment in what I have created. Please listen thoughtfully to my words; they have value. This music was written for the people that I care about; share it with those that you care about. You can hear samples here or at www.ThisisCJ.com. My life is a crazy combination of unbelievable circumstances, paradoxes and randomness, as are my musical influences, but it all comes together in excellent acoustic pop rock. I hope you'll be able to hear in my vocals that I grew up listening to R&B and folk rock. If you listen carefully to the rhythm section, you will hear that I play percussion instruments from all over the world. I have ...

| | Erik Bledsoe Response CD (2007)
Rise music CDs
$18.99 Born in Woodbridge, Virginia and growing up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Erik Bledsoe has always been challenged by his parents Christ-like example since he was little. On October 18, 1983 Bledsoe’s father led him to Christ over a bowl of macaroni and cheese and a hot dog when Bledsoe prompted his dad with the question "what does the word salvation mean?" Being raised in a home where faith in God is the utmost priority has rooted a devotion and trust deep within Bledsoe that is reflected in him today. After high school Bledsoe went to the Word of Life Bible Institute where he finished the Biblical Studies major. “My Father instilled in me at a very young age a love for the scriptures. He helped me study and I taught my first Sunday School class while I was in the Third Grade” recalls Bledsoe, “so Bible college for me was the first, most important step.” Coming from a musical family, music has been a part of Bledsoe’s life almost since birth. In the fall of 1998 Bledsoe transferred to Belmont University and pursued a degree in Music Business. This is where Bledsoe‘s songwriting was truly birthed. Bledsoe’s first project was released in the spring of 2002. His self-titled debut was produced by Ainsley Grosser, along with celebrated musicians from established acts like Hillsong, Crystal Lewis and Avalon. In the summer of 2004 Bledsoe met his soon to be wife Betsy and they were married a year later. Following the spiritual wisdom of his family and mentors Bledsoe took time away from music, in a full time capacity, to help lay the foundation for their marriage before heading back on the road full time. “During this time away the Lord has not only refreshed, but continued to grow my passion for developing true community in the local church and for helping others see and serve the lost, broken, and hurting among us” says Bledsoe. Even though he has taken ...
