Sound Soldier album
$12.39 Skye Sweetnam got her big break at an early age when her teen-rebellion anthem "Billy S." was tapped to appear on the soundtrack for the Mandy Moore film HOW TO DEAL. With interest in the young Canadian piqued, the youthful rocker entered the studio with expert producers, and emerged with her debut, NOISE FROM THE BASEMENT, a perfect mix of affable pop sensibility and nascent punk angst suffused with sunshine.
As one might expect, most of the themes regard the difficulties of growing up, finding love, and uncovering hidden emotions. Like Avril Lavigne and Ashlee Simpson, Sweetnam was schooled in the edgier side of rock & roll, and even the most radio-ready tracks, especially the runaway hit single "Tangled Up in Me," hold a sense of chaotic spark within. Sweetnam's lyrics, on the other hand, cling to a sense of innocence absent in the music of many maturing teen-pop sensations. Songs with titles such as "Hypocrite" and "It Sucks" ...
| | Blue Oyster Cult Some Enchanted Evening CD (1978) With DVD; Bonus Tracks
Sound Soldier CD music
$24.19 Recorded live at Barton Coliseum, Little Rock, Arkansas on April 9, 1978; Municipal Auditorium, Columbus, Georgia on April 11, 1978; Fox Theatre, Atlanta, Georgia on April 13, 1978; New Castle City Hall, New Castle, England on June 1, 1978.
Blue Oyster Cult's second live album (which was also the group's second platinum effort) was recorded during the 250-date tour for SPECTRES. Always one of the better '70s live draws, Blue Oyster Cult used SOME ENCHANTED EVENING to showcase some of the group's heartiest epics alongside some of its more well-known selections. Among the stellar songs included are the southern rock-flavored "R.U. Ready 2 Rock" and the mystical "Astronomy," a song that's wrapped in blankets of Allen Lanier's swirling synths. A crunching version of the hit "(Don't Fear) the Reaper" is only surpassed by the thunderous "Godzilla," a monster epic that is this band's "Smoke on the Water." An interesting pair of covers, "Kick Out the Jams" and "We Gotta Get ...

| | Demi Lovato Here We Go Again CD (2009)
Sound Soldier songs
$13.29 Like Britney Spears before her, Demi Lovato pretty much admits in the title of her sophomore album that she's serving up more of the same the second time around, but unlike Britney, that may not have been Demi's intention. For HERE WE GO AGAIN, Lovato makes a relatively clean break from the Jonas Brothers, who penned much of her debut, DON'T FORGET, drafting sensitive AAA singer/songwriters Jon McLaughlin and John Mayer, presumably to give Lovato a bit of mature veneer--a subtle shift buried underneath the relentlessly cheerful Radio Disney production and Lovato's irrepressible spunk. Both sonic characteristics tend to camouflage Demi's biggest moves away from teen pop--the fussy balladeering of "Falling Over Me," the mock-Mraz jazz-pop "Every Time You Lie," the sober soul searching of the Mayer collaboration "World of Chances," the Celtic flair of "Gift of a Friend"--which also happen to be the very things that make HERE WE GO AGAIN not quite as much fizzy fun as DON'T ...

| | Betty Morrell First Time Out CD (2004)
Sound Soldier CD music
$18.95 Betty Morrell is a singer/songwriter whose music bridges several genres and sounds like it was written in several eras. She easily pens songs that are like the traditional country we love, then she moves on to include a little jazz, a little attitude, but it's all about love. She moves seamlessly from melancholy through reflection and strength. Many of these are "strong woman" songs in the most traditional sense. She has a voice that lets you just sit back and listen and she's comfortable with the jazzy advice of Let Yourself Fly and in the declaration of a deep and simple love in I'm Crazy 'Bout You. First Time Out, her first CD, was recorded in Nashville with a great set of studio players, with the exception of I'm Crazy 'Bout You, which features the sound of a full orchestra, and was recorded at Lighthouse Studios in Virginia and How Can It Be, which was recorded in the home studio of a friend in Maryland. The music is good, with memorable lyrics and catchy melodies, but it's the voice that keeps you coming back to listen again and again.Betty lives in Nokesville, Virginia, a rural community about 40 miles outside of Washington DC. She submerges herself in both folk/americana and country songwriting communities. She works heavily with several songwriting organizations and represents the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) as a coordinator ...

| | Where The Jackalope Roam CD (2006)
Sound Soldier songs
$10.15 The Beatles meet James Taylor on their way to see a Broadway show. (There’s probably some way to work a guy with a duck on his head into that and make a joke but for now it’s just a glib description of the Jackalope sound.)And who are the people who create this wondrous sound you may ask? Even if you don’t ask the answer is Scott Freiheit (Bass, Keyboards & Vocals) a musical theatre composer and former Beatle copy-band musician and Jeff Viar (Guitar & Vocals) a James Taylor fanatic who could easily be in a James Taylor copy-band if such a thing existed. There’s a long and complicated story involving drummers (see jackalopeonline.com for more information on that) and a guest saxophone player, Chris Woodcock, who pops in from time to time but basically that’s about it.Jackalope is dedicated to the idea that music should be fun…sometimes even funny. But lest you think this is a comedy act behold the poignant ballads (like Serenade or Can’t We Go Back?) or the moodily evocative Under the Sun! Of course you could just buy the record and behold all of the songs and decide for yourself whether or not you think they’re moodily evocative or poignant or ...
