Collection album
$11.19 Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, it's a group of three natural-born collaborators: John Paul Jones, the old studio pro who gravitated toward provocative partners after Led Zeppelin's demise, teaming up with R.E.M. as easily as he did with avant-queen Diamanda Galas and nu-folkster Sara Watkins; Dave Grohl, who ...

| | Rosanne Cash List CD (2009)
Collection music CDs
$14.45 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament to life, and ...

| | Alice In Chains Black Gives Way To Blue CD (2009) Limited Edition; Digipak
Collection CD music
$12.59 When Layne Staley died from a drug overdose in 2002, it had already been several years since most Alice in Chains fans stopped hoping for a new album. The singer had become a recluse since the late-`90s, and there was little indication that AIC would ever again produce much in the way of new music. As a result, when the remaining members reunited to release BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE in 2009, expectations were low. To the delight ...
| | Transit Belle CD (2003)
Collection music CDs
$6.69 Taking their name from WWII U.S. Air Force bomber, Transit Belle formed in 2002 in New York City. Like a Zeppelin-meets-Fugazi brush fire, Transit Belle brings big hooks and smart melodies. And although making music is what brought these three together, it's all done with one purpose in mind - to play it live.Their debut EP is the result of their 2003 collaboration with legendary engineer Steve Albini. With Albini's ability to harness the same big sound of their live shows, the EP highlights the best of those sessions. "Transit Belle is a saviour, and a bold reminder that there is hope in the myriad of mundane music that's out there."-Storyline Records"It's (almost) all been done as far as a lot of music goes, but Transit Belle understand that and it's clear they're out to create something different."Stephanie Myers, The Deli"Transit Belle's Steve Albini-recorded, self-titled and-released EP proves that the trio will have no trouble keeping up."- Time Out, NY 7/24-31/03"In the songs on this disc, you can hear the influences, however subtle, of old glam rock, old garage rock, even a tinge of the grunge thing, but this band is first and foremost about writing good songs, plugging in, and playing them loud. Guitar, bass and drums, no frills, no exuberant effects, just straight-ahead rock and roll. And, as such, there's a rawness that pervades, ...
| | Steve Power Journey CD (2003)
Collection songs
$10.65 Based in Austin, Texas, Steve Power has been described as, "Dave Edmunds meets The Fabulous Thunderbirds on the way to see Led Zepplin." He's also been compared to Joe Ely and Raul Malo. Steve has been entertaining since his childhood in California where he sang duets with his mother for tips in San Diego restaurants. Since then he has: Criss-crossed the United States, hitching from coast to coast and border to border… played harmonica with John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters… sung with Joe Cocker… and stood as onstage bodyguard to Little Richard. Surviving attempted shootings, car wrecks and various governments, Steve washed up on the friendly shores of Wales, a country with a rich musical heritiage. He fit right into this fertile pool of talent, playing with all the local legends, guys with track records that include the likes of Dave Edmunds, Bo Diddley, Tom Jones, Van Morrison, and many others. His song “Money and Fun” was No.1 in the Alternative Country Chart and “Charlene” No.2 in the Cardiff Talent Chart. Voted Rhondda Valley Musician of the year in 1992, he also contributed music to the award winning Welsh language film “Boy Soldier’ and formed the nearly famous Sting Like a Bee, by consensus the best American/Welsh R&B band ever. He even received accolades from Elwood Blues (just ask Dan!). Arrivng in Austin, Steve continued his pattern of connecting with the best of the best, joining forces with former Joe Ely stalwart the truely legendary guitar slinger Jesse “Guitar” Taylor, recording the EP “Somewhere in Texas”. Steve’s latest critically acclaimed CD “The Journey” is a captivating reflection of a colorful life and a story well told.“You’ve got good songs. I mean really good songs. That’s why all those people came out.” –Billy Joe Shaver – CMA Songwriter Hall of Fame"Steve has given us an excellent album full of music reminiscent of the glory days of the Byrds, the Burritos, and the early Eagles - yet grounded in sounds that purists and ...
| | Mathew Joseph Eclectia CD (2006)
Collection album
$13.65 Mathew Joseph grew up in the lush green, richly cultural, coastal state of Kerala in south western India and was profoundly influenced by his father’s eclectic music collection. In his teens he found himself drawn to finger style guitar and was writing songs and composing music by the age of sixteen. In 1987 his creativity found new expression in the quaint hill town of Kodaikanal in South India where he met Oliver Rajamani and David Estes. In 2004 they joined Mathew to record "Firefly", an all acoustic album, in Austin, Texas and New York city. The album is a delightful tapestry of sound and a fine blend of different styles combining a string section of guitars, violin, cello, and piano with a percussion ensemble including tablas, mrdang, dumbek, drums, handchimes and bells. Backed by tight vocal harmonies, the six songs and two instrumentals reflect Mathew's life and experiences in his homeland and of his many travels in the high Himalayas. Following it's release Mathew has been interviewed on BBC radio and Power '95. The track "Kaliyug" has had success in the Billboard world song contest, the Great American song contest, the International songwiting competition {ISC} and the U.K songwriting contest. As one pro reviewer said it is "a fantastic amalgam of jazz, blues and traditional Indian rhythms - absolutely some of the fiercest, finest ...
