| | Richard Hartshorne Musicians From Al Kamandjati Live CD Richard Hartshorne Discography of CDs
In September of 2006, five musicians gathered at the Al Kamandjati Center in the old city of Ramallah to play music. Four of them were young Palestinian instrumentalists, and one was a 62 year-old American classically trained bass player, Richard "Dobbs" Hartshorne. They played traditional Arabic music, and classical Turkish music as well as contemporary compositions of Al Kamandjati's director and founder, Ramzi Aburedwan. They gave four concerts in four different cities in the West Bank: The Peace Center in Bethlehem, The National Palestinian Theater Al Kawati in East Jerusalem, The American School in Jenin, and on the roof of the Al Kamandjati Center in Ramallah. Musicians From Al Kamandjati Live album
$11.99 Joao Gilberto is perhaps forever destined to be lesser known to casual jazz fans than his occasional collaborator Stan Getz (whose GETZ/GILBERTO albums introduced the United States to bossa nova) and his ex-wife Astrud Gilberto (whose shy, delicate voice made her one of the most distinctive and beloved jazz vocalists of the '60s). However, true fans of Brazilian music recognize that Gilberto is second only to Antonio Carlos Jobim as a writer and interpreter of traditional Brazilian music and Brazilian-influenced jazz.
These two albums, collected in full on one CD, are among Gilberto's ...

$9.85 Razorcake #31 “This was an unexpected surprise. The cover art looks like Hellraiser goes to Disneyland, so I was leery what I would find inside, expecting cliches and worn-out punk rock rhetoric. There is a bit of that, but for the most part, this is a very solid record. Musically, it kind of sounds like Less Than Jake mixed with dirtier, crustier sensibilities; the ska influence is definitely there on some of the songs, but when the Inoculators crank it up this is a great vehicle for rock-n-roll fury. They also have some overtly political songs in here, which seems to be a no-no these days, but they don’t dominate the record so as to solely define them as a political band. ...

Musicians From Al Kamandjati Live album
$9.69 This Qwest project was a typical crossover project for Ernie Watts, who recorded a series of commercial sets for Elektra and Qwest. The rhythms are danceable; Watts displays attractive tones on tenor, alto, and soprano; the supporting cast includes top L.A. studio musicians (who were used to sounding anonymous and playing funk clichés); Don Grusin contributes keyboards and electronic rhythms; among the many vocalists are Larry Williams and Phil Perry; and guitarist Lee Ritenour pops up on a few numbers. None of the music is at all memorable and the results (which ...
