Colour Collection
$17.57 Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece REIGN IN BLOOD; it ...

| | Atreyu Congregation Of The Damned CD (2009)
Colour Collection
$11.55 On their latest effort, Atreyu come with more of the same metalcore that listeners have come to expect from the band. All of the familiar elements are in place, with the alternating screaming/soaring vocals, thundering double bass drumming, and big, crunchy riffage. The difference here is that the band seems to have mellowed out a bit, opting for a more melodic approach. Like their last album, the songs here feel somewhat restrained, like they're just dying to break free of the polished production. The intensity of SUICIDE NOTES and BUTTERFLY KISSES seems to have been put out to pasture, with the songs feeling more deliberately poppy.

| | Rammstein Sehnsucht CD (1998)
Colour Collection
$10.45 "Du Hast" was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.
First introduced to the public in the soundtrack to David Lynch's LOST HIGHWAY, Rammstein produces a unique brand of menacing Teutonic rock, reconciling forebears (and admitted influence) Kraftwerk with the sonic assault of Nine Inch Nails. SEHNSUCHT manages to come on strong enough to get the ...
| | Stryper Murder By Pride CD (2009)
Colour Collection
$10.75 After the original Stryper lineup (minus bassist Tim Gaines) reunited for 2005's somewhat alternative/nu-metal tinged REBORN, the band made a stylistic return to form with MURDER BY PRIDE. Brimming with harmonized twin guitar leads, big hair metal-approved shout-along hooks, and Michael Sweet's trademark soaring, Dennis DeYoung-esque vocals, the album rivals the best of Styper's `80s output, including the genre-defining TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL. Even casual fans who ...
| | Gil Scott-Heron Free Will CD (1972) (Import) Remastered; Germany
Colour Collection
$11.29 Keyboardist /composer/vocalist Gil Scott-Heron is best known for his politically-charged spoken word cut "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised." But it so happens that he's one heck of a soul singer -- think Billy Preston on a particularly jazzy day. This 1972 session features 12 tunes including the moving "Get Out Of The Ghetto Blues."
Gil Scott-Heron's third album is split down the middle, the first side being a purely musical experience with a full band (including flutist Hubert Laws and drummer Pretty Purdie), the second functioning more as a live rap session with collaborator Brian Jackson on flute and a few friends on percussion. For side one, although he's overly tentative on the ballad "The Middle of Your Day," Scott-Heron excels on the title track and the third song, "The Get Out of the Ghetto Blues," one of his best, best-known performances. The second side is more of an impromptu performance, with Scott-Heron often explaining his tracks by way of introduction ("No Knock" referred to a new police policy whereby knocking was no longer required before entering a house, "And Then He Wrote Meditations" being Scott-Heron's tribute to John Coltrane). His first exploration of pure music-making, Free Will functions as one of Scott-Heron's most visceral performance, displaying a maturing artist who still draws on the raw feeling of his youth. ...

| | Fernandez Plastic People CD (2008)
Colour Collection
$10.15 Ranjit Fernandez is originally from the east-coast town of Montrose in Scotland and has recently returned to the area after working in Qatar since 2000. In 2003, with the encouragement of Anthony Curtis (formerly of BOOM, www.anthonycurtis.net), he started composing and recording his music using a home-studio unit. Initially the songs were developed under the Unkle Fezter's Ear Project title and a triple CD album was produced. Hand-made CDs were sold in Qatar and abroad. The idea behind the music was to develop and present 3 genres of music simultaneously, each working on different moods and emotions. Songs in the 'Pierced' section are rock/metal orientated whilst 'Lobe' is the acoustic-driven collection presented as the 'soft' easy-listening alternative. 'Prostheses', as the name may suggest, is the experimental ambient/dance section working with loops and samples. Songs inspired by Qatar featured on his first retail release entitled Pearls. Pearls is an album of 8 instrumental tracks inspired by the artist's experiences of living in Qatar. Being instrumental, there are no language or cultural barriers. This was the first release of a CD by an expatriate resident in Qatar and received the attention and praise of the royal family.Following this, 3 further albums were released the next year. The albums include the triple CD Unkle Fezter's Ear Project; the ambient CD Corpus and the stress-relief CD called Relak-sashen.In 2008, Ranjit released his 'eco' album, Plastic People. This album once again features tracks from a variety of genres. He ...
