Six years on since 2001's largely forgettable DOWN TO EARTH, BLACK RAIN marks a bit of a comeback for Ozzy Osbourne. Ozzy's live band (featuring longtime guitarist Zakk Wylde, drummer Mike Bordin, and bassist Rob "Blasko" Nicholson) were called to arms at Oz's Los Angeles home studio to deliver the kind of heavy grooves and down-tuned hard rock that sate fans old and new. Wylde's trademark vibrato and false harmonics on the opening track, in particular, set a hard-hitting tone for this fresh set of tracks.
Lyrically Ozzy makes some familiar anti-war statements ("Black Rain" and "Countdown's Begun"), delivers social and political commentary ("Almighty Dollar" and "Civilize The Universe"), and offers affection for his fans and loved ones ("Here For You" and "Lay Your World On Me"). I bought this when I first heard about it 'cause you know I was gettin' ready for Ozzfest, and I'm a diehard fan anyway, but it's a load of crap that not only did I not get the extra songs I got that little cardboard case too, what the crap? I love the music but come on, I don't have the money too buy every little thing that is put out. I'm not gonna buy the same cd just for some live tracks and a few extra songs. Rock On!

 wutz up with the cardboard sleeve...?
ok i gotta say this is Ozzy's best album since "No More Tears" back in 1991.pure hard hitting heavy metal tracks cover this album.though i don't care for the last song "Trap Door." the title track is about Ozzy's views on the war in Iraq."Here For You" is a awesome ballad to Ozzy's fans who stuck by him all these years.now if you got the original album with the cardboard sleeve you're probably wondering why they did this with a new cover and extra tracks with a jewel case. more money of course.i hate the sleeve so i had to buy this to protect my cd better and have the extra tracks as well.i wish they released it this way to begin with instead of the cheap sleeve.and the other 3 studio tracks on the bonus disc (minus the live ones).still great music from the Ozz man!!enjoy!

nice...
how thoughtful, how sweet, how nice of Ozzy’s record company to release this BARELY 6 MONTHS after the original release of the album…(I’m being sarcastic, just in case you were wondering…) they want people to keep buying CD’s and stop illegal downloading, and yet, they keep pulling off dirty tricks such as this one… give me a break!!!
I’m all for supporting the artist (and while I don’t personally endorse downloading, as long as it’s legal it’s ok with me…) and whatever, but really…how do you think most fans who bought the CD back in May will feel seeing this? Or the guys who legally downloaded it ‘cos they thought they were getting exclusive tracks? Or even worse, the guys who got the imports at higher prices in order to get the extra tracks? Sure, the ULTRA/MEGA diehards with disposable income are not going to mind at all, and they are going to be glad, and they are going to sing praises, never mind the fact that they paid for 2 (or even 3, ‘cos I know a few freaks who download albums AND also buy the CD’s…) versions of the same thing…
Well, here’s to 14 bucks of mine the record company is not gonna get…and also, I’m establishing a new policy: I won’t buy new CD’s for AT LEAST a year after they are released, in order to avoid being ripped off any further by those scumbags…yeah, I’m feeling pretty mad right now, and I have the funny feeling that I’m going to be mad for a while…
I’m going to give Ozzy the benefit of the doubt at this time (“innocent until proven guilty”) and blame it on his record company, so my rating has nothing to do with the music, I’m just protesting the release…I just hope I don’t find out that this was another one of Sharon’s money making schemes, ‘cos I’m getting pretty tired of those, too…

Make sure you don't own a copy of Black Rain already. I bought it in 2007 and beiing it was such a thin CD it got lost in the shuffle after a week or two.
I completely forgot about it. Then today I found this new two-disc edition with the new art work. I completely forgot this was already released and thought 'How did that one get by me? '
But as these other reviews here seem to be mad about record companies reissuing albums, that is an old practice that many times the artist has nothing to do with. Get this CD and play the first four songs at least--Ozzy still has what it takes. By the time you get to the end of the disc the sound/formula grows a little thin, but it's still a solid release.

Black Rain is great~
The music on Black Rain is great! What is wrong with you people? I know it is the 2nd version of Black Rain, but Fear Factory and Sepultura, Soulfly(Roadrunner) were bad baout that too. But it's a way to bring in more dough.
I like the inclusion of the live abd b sides. Makes for a great listen! The music is good and heavy, much better than Down to Earth!

On their debut album, Pasadena, CA's A Little Space plays fusion jazz that draws from Steely Dan, Al Jarreau, and Sting as well as salsa, soul, and funk.
