| | Kate Band Dunphy Life At The Speed Of Sound CD (2005)
Joao Gilberto music CDs
$10.29 The Kate Dunphy Band is a piano driven pop/rock jam band out of Hartford, CT. The band performs all original music by Kate Dunphy. Kate's music is brought to life by the multi-talented band members she employs. They blend many influences and genres into their own unique style of music that is difficult to throw into one category. The band is known for their catchy songs, tasteful jamming, tight arrangements and amazing musicianship. As one of the only jam-oriented female band leaders in the country, Kate’s live show blends rock, jazz, funk, folk, and latin music featuring explosive jams and solos that always leave the crowd begging for more. Kate’s band consists of Steve Quam on bass, Steve Elmy on Guitar, Jason Anick on Electric Violin and Rob Griffith on Drums. The band has performed at many reputable venues around the northeast including: The Bitter End in New York City, The Grape Street Pub in Philadelphia, The Webster Theatre and Sully’s Pub in Hartford, as well as frequent performances at the University of Hartford including Spring Fling 2006 where they opened for hip-hop star Method Man. The band independently released their debut CD “Life at the Speed of Sound,” in March of 2005. The record was well-received and left their fans eager to see what they would come up with next. The band re-entered the studio at the beginning of 2006 to record an album that better represents their true sound. The result is their new EP "Outside Up & Inside Down." This record shows the bands versatility and how they can perform many styles authentically, but still keep their original signature within the music. “Outside Up & Inside Down” will be on sale at the end of May. In the meantime, the band is booking their fall 2006 tour which will include stops in many cities and college campuses. CD Review: By Brian Verderosa (University of Hartford Informer)Going to a university, not to mention one which contains theprestigious Hartt School of Music, you're bound to see and heartons of newly formed bands and musical acts - Lord knows Ihave. In my time here I've heard a lot of promising and talentedfolks, but the Kate Dunphy Band takes the proverbial cake.Their debut, "Life at the Speed of Sound," is a perfectrepresentation of the unique and soulful sound Kate and herboys create. The band - all Hartt majors - is comprised ofDunphy on piano and vocals, Adam Kubota on both electric andupright bass, Steve Elmy on guitar and Rob Griffith handling ...
| | Kenny Young and the Eggplants Toxic Swamp & Other Love Songs CD (2000)
Joao Gilberto songs
$13.65 Claiming to be from Brooklyn (but possibly from some other galaxy altogether), Kenny Young and the Eggplants are a not-easily-described semi-acoustic trio who perform songs about giant squirrels, super-powered frogs, scary bits of cheese, inebriated birds, and broken washing machines, among other important rock and roll concerns. Various attempts to define their music have been made, but perhaps the most entertaining quote comes from the New York Times, which said that the Eggplants “give eloquent voice to the multifaceted neuroses of prolonged adolescence.” In the U.K., the Sunday Herald said the Eggplants “mix the wit of Jonathan Richman with the sound of the Nico-era Velvets to create a surreal and satirical gumbo.” They have also been called a “deeply eccentric pop band” (The Guardian), and a “wonderful weird band” (The Scotsman). The Village Voice said, “The naivete Kenny wears on his sleeve is genuine - think of an East Village Brian Wilson, without the money but still tilted ...

Joao Gilberto album
$39.89 Originally released in 1983 in the U.K. as a double vinyl LP that famously sold for only 99 pence--and subsequently dominated the indie charts for 19 weeks--PILLOWS & PRAYERS has been given the extended box set treatment for its 25th Anniversary release. This version contains not only the originally sequenced record--here on Disc One--but two more extraordinary discs that read as a Who's Who of the post-punk romantics that dotted the Cherry Red roster in the early '80s. Everything But the Girl, Tracey Thorn, Ben Watt, Eyeless in Gaza, the Monochrome Set, Felt, Marine Girls, and the Reflections are among the many heart-on-the-sleeve luminaries compiled here. The tracklist contains mostly early recordings of these seminal artists--many of them previously unavailable on CD. The handsome box also includes a bonus DVD featuring artist videos.
Originally released as a specially-priced LP on Christmas Day 1982, PILLOWS AND PRAYERS was an immediate success, topping the U.K. indie chart for nearly five months and selling over 120,000 copies. As such, the 17-track LP introduced an entire generation of indie kids worldwide to the then fairly obscure Cherry Red Records label, and such artists as Everything But the Girl (whose two members also had a solo track ...
