Pan Pipe Moods album
$14.38 Glitter and Doom Live, a double-disc set, marks Tom Waits' third live effort in his nearly 40-year career, each one summing up his career to the point of its release. The first, Nighthawks at the Diner issued in 1975 on Asylum, is regarded by many as one of the greatest live albums of all time. The second was Big Time, released during his tenure at Island in 1986. The musical performances on disc one of Glitter and Doom Live were culled from Waits' historic sold-out tour of the U.S. and Europe. He compiled and sequenced ...

$6.69 ...m.c. - the dry-bass-induced sound with a bit of chipmunk style started officially in 2000, in the back bedroom of a trailor converted into a small studio. The founder, mr. coffee himself (Jim O'Connor) started playing drums in grade school in the early 80's, guitar in high school with on-the-spot-formed garage bands and finally found his instrument of choice in the early 90's, which was of course the ever booming bass. He then went on to work the bass for two bands, "Trezon," and "Minocqua Aqua" in the late 90's. In 2000, coffee was blessed with a mrs. coffee (Theresa Gonzales) and they lived in the trailor where the studio was first formed. At the time coffee had showed mrs. coffee a few bass licks after the piano experience she had gained in high school and over the years. Meanwhile, coffee made a return to the drums and created the "practice" band with mrs. coffee, at first called, "nuku y booboo", (just goofy nicknames they had for each other, meaning simply her and him.) The practices at first consisted of mostly screwing around and doing some Nintendo Mario Brothers music covers! After a while they began to discover a joy for actually waking up early on a saturday or sunday morning to jam. They would wake up about 6:00 a.m., consume some regular as well as "herbal" coffee and then head to the back room to make loud noise. This early morning loudness is what came to be known as the "morning coffee" because it would definately wake one up. They also thought it would be cool to play a gig early in the morning. In 2001, coffee made a cassette recording on a 4-track mixer (only recording equipment at the time!) called, "morning coffee's interpretation of the holiday season." It consisted mainly of christmas song covers as well as a few origionals and non-holiday covers. It was an experimental first album done mainly in fun to celebrate the holiday season and winter. The band now consists of just coffee who works the bass, drums, guitar, keys, fictional singers and all the mixing as well as the cover art on his Macintosh. Coffee, always having been interested in humor as well as impersonations, has attempted to blend the two into the music, especially the vocals, or, well, almost parodies, if you will, by mixing his vocal imitations to attempt to display an "illusion" of singers ranging from Barry White to Janis Joplin, or Bjork to Alvin & the Chipmunks. Coffee has always enjoyed many singers but has a compassion mainly for the sound of woman singers, and with his admittedly limited singing ability but more substantial imitating skills, he has attempted to impersonate male and female singers. He pays his respects to all his influences like Ween, Ben Folds, Mike Watt, Beck, Curtis Mayfield, Primus, Janis Joplin, Bjork, Bill Withers, Freda Rente', the Commodes, Gary Hoey, Black Flag and Uriah Heep to name just a slight few and not to mention the rest, for the inspiration to try to do what they did. Coffee is a slightly odd-man-out. A crude, unshaved, tobacco chewing, beer and brandy partaking little man that he is, coffee has always tried to make his music sound like anything but his crude image. While some of it is down right bass pluck hardness, ...
| | Imole Jumi's Spoken Cabaret CD (2007)
Pan Pipe Moods songs
$25.29 IMOLE, Jumi's Spoken Cabaret is an innovative compilation of ten (10) inspirational tracks of ironic weaves of recitals, songs, poetry, word games, wit, metaphors and subtleties set to varying genres of music. Jumi sees poetry as a fascinating tool that gives expression to a passionate and unorthodox voice. She clearly feels very much a part of her audience and believes that in listening incisively they will find twists, turns and whimsies of our collective destiny food for inspired thought...A “proudly Nigerian” poet, vocalist and lyricist with a tender tough stripe of cultural louche and spiritual commentary, Jumi's artistic style is bold and imaginative with a conversational voice that sounds almost reticent. In Jumi's Spoken Cabaret, she maximizes this compelling and inimitable style to ride hot currents for the pain and pleasure of swooping around spiritual, pure, social, maternal and fragile subjects. Whilst doing this, she clings to images of reality that are firmly embedded in what she perceives to be the public’s consciousness, acknowledging issues people feel they are familiar with or can relate to, offering a speculative but entirely plausible view. Exposure to Yoruba griot sounds, classical forms of music plus a need for and hunger to express truth’s tale becomes tension released in distinct ways in each of the ten tracks on the CD. From deep sentiments to an indigenous groove set to a lush vocal background to epics of gratitude carrying a sensual earthiness, the entire production is a consolidation of international and traditional styles fused into a deeply personal approach.Reviews"Jumi’s voice is very rich and she enunciates her words with a passion that grabs you. Also very interesting is her use of metaphors in a very distinct way. “Like a rose bud romancing a hot summer sun, a seedling takes root to be conformed to the sun”. She does not try to come across like a follower of Chaucer and hence ...
