The Academy Award-winning race relations movie is being released as part of the 90th anniversary celebrations of United Artists. Bonuses: three featurettes, commentary. While on a trip back home in Mississippi, detective Virgil Tibbs is arrested for the murder of a prominent industrialist. His only crimes: being out late at night and being black. After some prodding by his boss, Tibbs joins forces with the bigoted town sheriff to catch the real killer. Norman Jewison helms this Best Picture winner about a black Philadelphia detective (Sidney Poitier) who becomes involved in a murder case in a small, bigoted southern town, much to the chagrin of the local redneck police chief (Rod Steiger). An excellent production, IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT was adapted by Stirling Silliphant from John Ball's novel. The drama boasts seven Academy Award nominations and five statuettes, including Best Picture, Best Actor--Rod Steiger, and Best (Adapted) Screenplay. Academy Award for Best Sound to the Goldwyn Sound Department. In The Heat Of The Night Reviews: "...At the height of the civil rights era, it was volcanic..."

The story and Poiter are Phenomenal Loaded with racism, ignorance, mystery, injustice and a REAL "feel good" ending, this movie is sure to go down in history as an honest attempt at showing prejudice and hopefully an honorable attempt at bringing change.
Poiter was gallant, humble, intelligent and gentle without being subservient...One of his greatest roles. Steiger was amazing and powerful.... sure to be his best role also. My Favoirite From Poiter! Excellent performances by both Poiter and Steiger. I was only 3 or 4 years old when this movie was released and I think it is a collectors item. Music also scored by Quincy Jones. Submitted by percyjohnson28269 (Charlotte NC, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
one of the great classics this movie could have been filmed today and touched many nerves around the world
in the politically correct millenium this movie portrays a far too standard myopic view of the day
everyone should see this movie Submitted by mdkwolfe (southern,NH) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful. This review is for a different format.

$10.19 The grisly and debauched film PATHOLOGY is a juiced-up medical thriller that plays like FLATLINERS with a mean streak and a broken moral compass. Writers Mark Nelvedine and Brian Taylor have created a premise allowing for CSI-like forensics along with heaps of sex and violence, truly making the most of the film's R-rating. A high-end exploitation film with good performances, PATHOLOGY is strong enough for horror fans and should go down smoothly for non-squeamish viewers with a taste for the dark side.
Gifted med student Ted Grey (Milo Ventimiglia, HEROES) arrives at a major Washington, D.C., as an intern, where he is met with suspicion and resentment by the tightly knit group of fellow young pathologists-in-training. Soon, though, Ted is accepted into their circle---where they each take turns committing a murder so that the others may prove their mettle by figuring out the cause of death and celebrate with drug-fueled orgies among the dead bodies in the hospital. Things change for Ted, though, when his law student fiancée, Gwen (Alyssa Milano), moves to the city and helps to scare him straight. Soon, crazed Wallace Stevens-quoting leader Jake Gallo (Michael Weston) turns on Ted, putting both Ted's and Gwen's lives in serious jeopardy. The film opens with the Hippocratic Oath, and it's easy to tell that PATHOLOGY is going to show us doctors behaving badly, and the film is in fact almost gleefully immoral, with an attractive young cast that ...

$13.55 Marcel Langenegger makes his feature-film directorial debut with the aptly titled DECEPTION, a film about secrets and lies. Jonathan McQuarry (Ewan McGregor) feels that life is passing him by. He completes short-term audits for a large firm, but doesn't really feel any connection to his employer and finds it difficult to make friends at his assignments since he's never there for long. Jonathan's circumstances change overnight when charming lawyer Wyatt Bose (Hugh Jackman) befriends him. In an instant, the shy accountant is playing doubles tennis with his new friend and beautiful women and visiting upscale clubs. Just as mild-mannered Jonathan is getting used to his new lifestyle, Wyatt leaves town on business. When Jonathan finds himself mistakenly in possession of Wyatt's cell phone, he also discovers a whole new world of anonymous sex in elite Manhattan hotels with powerful women known simply as "The List." But soon Jonathan is in over his head: he's the prime suspect when a woman goes missing, and the threat of extortion looms.
This tale weaves an intricate web of lies and treachery. Jackman is both charming and chilling as Wyatt, a man utterly without conscience, while McGregor falls easily into character as the bespectacled Everyman, Jonathan. ...

$9.69 Actor Justin Theroux (MULHOLLAND DRIVE) switches roles and takes a turn behind the camera for the twisted romantic comedy DEDICATION. Billy Crudup stars as Henry, an obsessive-compulsive author of children's books. Henry is forced by his publisher to team up with a new illustrator, Lucy (Mandy Moore), after his former illustrator, Rudy (Tom Wilkinson), suddenly dies. The author's mental state is so fragile that he continues to communicate with Rudy via the Unisphere--a giant globe that was part of the World's Fair in Queens, New York, in the 1960s. Despite Henry's odd behavior, he strives to work to work with Lucy on a sequel to his successful (and porn inspired) kids book entitled "Marty the Beaver." Tensions mount between this very odd couple, but it's not long before they find a common bond, and their feelings for each other take a romantic turn.
Theroux stirs a little subversion into the romantic comedy formula with DEDICATION, but the bulk of the movie sticks to familiar indie-rom-com territory. The soundtrack is laced with indie-rock; the subject matter touches on issues its 20-something target audience will readily identify with; and the quirky characters will appeal to fans of similar fare such as Miranda July's ME AND YOU AND EVERYONE WE KNOW, Mike Mills's THUMBSUCKER, and Zach Braff's GARDEN STATE. This is Theroux's debut as a director, and although DEDICATION is drastically different from his work with mentor David Lynch, it does offer a hint at a future career away from acting.
Dedication is a modern ...
