| | Gov't Mule By A Thread CD (2009)
Emma
$12.29 BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing the unexpected in while still driving a band. The band's keyboardist and rhythm guitarist, Danny Louis, is a shape-shifter, playing ...

| | Michael Jackson Bad CD (1987) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Special Edition
Emma
$7.59 Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
Jackson's domination of the world record market continued following Thriller, although by comparison it was an almighty flop with only 12 million sales. As Pink Floyd and Dire Straits have proved, one album can go completely sales haywire without necessarily being any better. The title track and the gorgeous "Man In The Mirror" were substantial hits, but quality material such as "Dirty Diana" and "Liberian Girl" bolster a strong album. Jackson also seemed to have found the romance he seeks in "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" and "The Way You Make Me Feel." Regardless of his press, ...
| | Journey Greatest Hits CD (1988) Bonus Track; Remastered; Digipak
Emma
$9.29 This is a Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players.
Along with Styx and REO Speedwagon, Journey ruled the charts and radio airwaves in the early '80s. And like the aforementioned bands, Journey began in the '70s, so obviously the compilers of its 1988 GREATEST HITS release had a lot of material to choose from.
Journey's sound was a merger of hard rock, compliments of guitarist Neal Schon, and the melodic pop/ballads of singer Steve Perry. This resulted in such classic rock radio staples as "Any Way You Want It," "Separate Ways," "Open Arms," "Don't Stop Believin'," "Wheel in the Sky," and "Who's Crying Now," all included here.
Greatest Hits is an excellent, thorough 14-track collection containing all of Journey's big hits, from 1978's "Wheel in the Sky" to 1986's "I'll Be Alright Without You." Although the songs aren't presented in chronological order and a handful of minor hits ("Suzanne," "Walks Like a Lady") aren't included, it doesn't matter, since every essential Journey single -- "Only the Young," "Don't Stop Believin'," "Any Way You Want It," "Separate Ways," "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'," "Open Arms," ...
| | Los Lobos Good Morning Aztlan CDs (2002)
Emma
$11.99 Jettisoning the studio bells-and-whistles used by the Mitchell Froom/Tchad Blake production team throughout the '90s, Los Lobos change gears by hooking up with Radiohead/XTC producer John Leckie on GOOD MORNING AZTLAN, the band's 10th full-length album. Named for the mythical birthplace of the Aztecs, this 12-pack of songs draws deeply from Los Lobos' unique mix of rock, R&B, blues, and Mexican folk music. With David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas cranking up their guitars, songs like the title cut and the rumbling shuffle "Done Gone Blue" juice up the proceedings alongside mellower fare like the Curtis Mayfield-flavored soul of "The Word" and the delicate Latin flavors of "Malaque."
Ever aware of their roots in East L.A., these first-generation Mexican Americans have always made a point of writing about those who've come to this country to achieve the American dream. "Tony & Maria" finds the band revisiting characters first written about on 1985'S HOW WILL THE WOLF SURVIVE, only to find these immigrants facing a life of fading hope. Other high points find saxman Steve Berlin blasting through the gritty funk-rock "Get ...

| | Flurish Belle Reve CD (2003)
Emma
$12.69 Drawing from influences ranging from Sigur Ros to Radiohead, Flurish banded together with a mission to create intense, beautiful rock and roll. In the past three years, their craft has matured as they envelope sounds from alt. country to indie-electronic pop, but their goals have remained the same: to make achingly beautiful, personal music that deeply affects the listener. Throughout their existence as a band, Flurish has ignored the restrictions and stereotypes that plague college bands. They are talented and confident enough to challenge the listener, demanding attention from any music fan that is willing to step past narrow confines of radio-rock and experience beauty outside the lines. Starting in the summer of 2000 with Ryan Joyce (Lead Vocals, Guitars, Piano) Daniel Saxton (Keyboards, Electronics) and KC Kisinger (Drums) Flurish started working on a collection of songs. Now...2 demos, 2 EPs and more than 50 shows later, their third EP entitled Belle Reve is scheduled to release this autumn.Since the creation of the band, there has been a constant feel of urgency: A feeling that the songs and the music contain emotions and experiences that cannot be kept secret. Flurish has always been very certain about their goals: To create music that would be very close to their own experience and emotion. All their releases, thus far, have strongly reflected this deep ambition. Their sound ranges from pounding guitars to string sections sweetly whispering stretching all the way to well fashioned electronic pop tunes. If one thing is true about Flurish, it's that they refuse to let their fans out of their strong musical grip.Flurish ...
