The three-CD box set Grazie a Tutti offers a comprehensive overview of Gianni Morandi's 45-year career. One of Italy's most beloved entertainers of the past century, Morandi's impregnable mainstream appeal is based on his perfect embodiment (in life and art) of the boy next door of humble origins and wholesome values, in love with love, and music. Singer, actor, comedian, TV host, he has done it all, and -- but for a dark spell in the '70s -- his popularity has always remained high. Even age could not dent the seemingly untouchable Morandi, who successfully adjusted from matinee idol in the early '60s to everybody's favorite uncle in the 2000s. Grazie a Tutti spreads 48 remastered tracks over three discs. The first covers his '60s material -- arguably his most endearing period and certainly the most fun -- and includes timeless classics of silly Italian pop such as "Fatti Mandare Dalla Mamma" or "In Ginocchio da Te," as well as the anti-Vietnam war staple "C'era un Ragazzo Come Me Che Amava i Beatles e i Rolling Stones." The second disc chronicles Morandi's renaissance in the '80s as a mature romantic singer, with hits such as "Bella Signora" and "Uno Su Mille," as well as his blockbuster collaboration with Lucio Dalla. Finally, the third disc gathers its tracks from Morandi's most recent productions, and it adds a new song "Stringimi le Mani," written by Pacifico. Grazie a Tutti features two other previously unreleased recordings, a live 1965 rendition of "Se Non Avessi Pił Te" with the Ennio Morricone orchestra, and a new version of "Un Mondo d'Amore," one of Morandi's greatest hits now reprised as a duet with that other perennial romantic, Claudio Baglioni. Although decidedly overkill for casual listeners, Grazie a Tutti is a gift intended for Morandi's fans only. Of course, in Italy that means the entire mainstream market. Released in late 2007, it unsurprisingly became a huge seller, so much so that less than a year later it was followed by another Morandi three-CD box set (with no overlapping tracks) Ancora...Grazie a Tutti. ~ Mariano Prunes Gianni Morandi Grazie A Tutti Songs | 1. | Andavo A 100 All'ora | |

$11.65 Not surprisingly, there are a few changes in the six-year interim between Soulhat's last album and this one. Most obviously, co-founder, singer/songwriter Bill Cassis has departed, replaced by Mac McNabb who doesn't contribute tunes or vocals. That leaves the songwriting onus almost entirely on Kevin McKinney, who although capable, tends to arrange all the tracks with a similar, slightly funky, midtempo bounce, and he's now the only singer. The band's predominantly acoustic style incorporates touches of blues, country, rock, funk, pop, folk, and even reggae in a congenial, bubbly, often contagious mix. When the lyrics jump out as they do on the hot-dog, double-time, bluegrass-propelled, basketball double entendre "WNBA" ("she's got a lovely little lay-up"), the energy and unbridled enthusiasm that has kept the Texas band a big club draw during the '90s is evident. Legendary rock/funk drummer Frosty Smith sits in on drums. ~ Hal Horowitz

$5.99 'I feel that his works make the viewer want to be part of them,' Kelly Warner says describing the work of Joseph Cornell, the withdrawn, New York City assemblage artist whose work inspired the name of Warner's music project, Hotel Eden. "Cornell was able to create elegant, compelling microcosms out of found pieces arranged in small shadowboxes, luring you in and inviting you to explore their tiny classrooms, galaxies or snowy forests he set in motion with bits of wire, paper and cork.' It is no wonder that Kelly was drawn to this art, considering his own past: 'back in college when my friends were out partying, I was in a basement apartment gluing bits of borrowed drums and synths and voices and strings together to create what I hoped would become magical little wonderlands of sound. ' And now with years of musical exploration under his belt, the producer/songwriter offers an eclectic collection of poetic, genrehopping songs for his first solo EP, A Way Back Home. This Solar Set Records release vibrantly displays Hotel Eden's ever-evolving vision that results in comparisons to Peter, Bjorn & John; Feist; Kings of Convenience and Beck. As a one-man production team, Kelly writes, sings, plays and records his irreverent pop songs with a mix of vintage instruments and new technology in his home studio. With a background of well worn white label electronica releases, this DJ/beatmaker/multi-instrumentalist was also one half of the visionary but now historic hip hop duo, The Lab Rats. Kelly and his Lab Rats band-mate were loved in part for replacing samples with original music that included beats, self-samples and live instrumentation. Song craft, live performance, recording, studio production and stylistic experimentation were just a few of the lessons Kelly learned in the lab. Moving through phases as any artist does, he takes from the past, but now more fully realizes live instrumentation in production and uses his own songwriting inspiration to create Cornell-like havens of beauty, chaos and solace. The EP opens with 'Tell Me where You've Been' a modern, airy, piano-centric contemplation of time and the human condition. This track has already been selected for Columbus Alive's (weekly arts and entertainment ...
