LOW ON CASH, RICH IN LOVE builds on Eric Lindell's surprisingly adept debut with a song cycle that foregrounds his incredibly diverse band and soulful vocal chops. While the band specializes in a rootsy take on spry Meters-esque funk, Lindell--a born bandleader--pushes them through rhythm & blues, soul, and blue-collar rock workouts with a charm that pits the combo as New Orleans's answer to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in their '70s heyday. Yes, it's that good. Extra points for covering Gil-Scott Heron's "Lady Day and John Coltrane."
