On "I Can't Take It No More," the intro to Yung Wun's debut, THE DIRTIEST THIRSTIEST, the Ruff Ryder member ruefully counts down the ludicrous amount of time it took for his album to come out (over eight years), calculating precisely to the hour. While the wait was certainly unfortunate, THE DIRTIEST THIRSTIEST finds the grimy, hard-edged MC carrying an incredible intensity, his flow as focused as a laser beam.
On one of the album's high points, Yung Wun trades growls with the best of them, as DMX, Lil' Flip, and David Banner join him on the ravenous "Tear It Up." Yung Wun possesses lyrical acumen to match the ferocity of his snarl, and on "Sad Song," he merely holds a light up to life in the ghetto, neither glorifying it nor dismissing it. He lets out a more vulnerable side on "Starvin' & Robbin'," as he practically breaks down from all the hopelessness in his neighborhood. On the other end of the spectrum lies "Yung Wun Anthem," where the rapper is bold enough to question a hip-hop icon, harshly wondering why so many rappers would want to be like 2Pac. With this powerful and complex record, Yung Wun proves that the wait for THE DIRTIEST THIRSTIEST was far too long.Entertainment Weekly (pp.70-1) - "[With] refreshingly unorthodox sonic backdrops....[He] invests his urban chants with spooky charm." - Grade: B Dirtiest Thirstiest Music Yung Wun Dirtiest Thirstiest Songs Dirtiest Thirstiest Music Dirtiest Thirstiest Review

Dirtiest Thirstiest album
$11.18 After his aborted, internet-leaked 2008 album, 12 PLAY: 4TH QUARTER, R. Kelly busied himself with guest spots for Beyonce, T-Pain, and Kanye West, even offering a free download on iTunes, "I Believe," inspired by the election of president Barack Obama. While such moves insured that Kelly would never stray far from the R&B throne he's occupied for more than a decade, his 2009 reboot of 12 PLAY, UNTITLED, should provide more than enough reason for fans to keep coming back for more. From Auto Tune-laden crowd pleasers like "Outta the Game" and "Crazy Night" to rousing club-oriented numbers like "Echo," Kelly downplays the slower "baby-making" jams this time around for a set of largely up-tempo songs, capped by a sultry collaboration with Keri Hilson ("Number One").

| | Pink Funhouse CD (2008) Explicit
Dirtiest Thirstiest music CDs
$8.99 Pink's insistently hooky, attitude-filled pop-rock has kept the singer a fixture on the radio and on singles charts since the early 2000s. The artist's fifth effort, FUNHOUSE, doesn't tamper with the formula: Pink's powerhouse vocals and in-your-face approach, backed by stadium-sized production, are in full effect on all 12 tracks. Even though the album deals primarily with aftermath of her divorce and includes serious moments of self-confrontation like "Sober," fans needn't worry that Pink has lost any of her chutzpah.
If anything, there's an increased sense of confidence and newfound liberation on tracks like the chest-thumping "So What" and the mischievous, bouncing "Bad Influence." In softer moments, like the ballad "I Don't Believe You" and the soulful "One Wrong Foot," Pink channels her personal experience into expressions that carry ...
| | Al Jarreau Christmas CD (2008)
Dirtiest Thirstiest songs
$9.09 For the past few decades, Al Jarreau has established himself as a truly modern jazz singer, one for the post-fusion generation--those who grew up with the sounds of the cordial contemporary jazz of George Benson, Spyro Gyra, and Herbie Hancock. CHRISTMAS is Jarreau's first-ever collection of holiday songs on which he wraps ...

| | Joss Stone Colour Me Free! CD (2009) Import
Dirtiest Thirstiest CD music
$30.38 The "free" in the title to Joss Stone's fourth album apparently refers to the neo-singer breaking free from the shackles of her major label, EMI, who apparently have not let Joss be Joss. That this constricting argument happens to be the exact same story line Stone used for 2007's Introducing Joss Stone, the splashy diva power trip meant to unveil the "real" singer, is conveniently forgotten, as is the modern R&B of that makeover, with Joss returning to all the retro-soul of her first two records. The one lingering element of Introducing is a propensity for melisma-laden oversinging, a tic that stands out in the warmer, funkier settings of Colour Me Free! Still, her raw vocal skills remain impressive, as does her taste in soul, and this does beat with a messy human heart. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
