| | Mooney Suzuki Have Mercy Vinyl LP Record Mooney Suzuki Discography of CDs
The Mooney Suzuki deliberately flew in the face of indie-rock rules by somewhat perversely hiring mainstream hitmakers the Matrix (Avril Lavigne, Liz Phair, etc.) to write and produce their third album, ALIVE AND AMPLIFIED, a critical and commercial flop that lost the band their major-label deal. Three years later, the Mooney Suzuki pretend that album never happened on HAVE MERCY, smartly picking up where 2002's ELECTRIC SWEAT left off, with noisy but catchy garage punk heavily influenced by the Stooges and the MC5. HAVE MERCY is a swaggering, punchy, glorious mess of a record capturing everything that's great about the Mooney Suzuki.
The Mooney Suzuki: Graham Tyler (guitars); Sammy James, JR. (bass instrument); Will Rockwell-Scott (drums).
Additional personnel: Michael Bangs, Reno Bo, Danielia Cotton (vocals); Kevin Salem (guitars); Danny Wilensky (flute); Michael Magro (clarinet); Elizabeth Dotson-Westphalen (trombone); Rob Arthur (keyboards).
Entertainment Weekly (p.69) - "MERCY's rootsy, rueful tunes have a pleasant, low-key feel....An auspicious sign for their future." -- Grade: B Alternative Press (p.143) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "On the whole, the songs are more tuneful and airy and less spastic than previous riot-on-the-stage efforts." CMJ (p.44) - "[T]he hooks of tunes like '99%' and 'Good Ol' Alcohol' prove their in-your-sleep songwriting chops." Have Mercy album
$14.45 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament to life, and it belongs to her father as much as it belongs to her, a beautiful restatement of her father's passions, only now, they've become his daughter's treasures, as well. It's an affirming story, but that's all it would be if Cash didn't sing her heart out here. The opener, ...
| | Them Crooked Vultures CD (2009)
Have Mercy CD music
$11.19 Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, it's a group of three natural-born collaborators: John Paul Jones, the old studio ...

| | Muse The Resistance CD (2009)
Have Mercy album
$15.65 With its titanic guitar solos, symphonic suites, and multi-layered melodies, Muse's fifth album operates under the assumption that bigger is better. This is the very definition of a super-sized album, an album that takes its cues from Queen, its lyrics from science fiction novels, and its delivery from rock opera. It's also the first time that Muse has truly sounded like Muse, as few bands since Queen have so readily explored the intersection of bombast and extravagance. THE RESISTANCE is most certainly extravagant -- there are snatches of classical piano entwined throughout, not to mention bilingual lyrics, concert hall percussion, coronet solos, and song titles like "Exogenesis: Symphony, Pt. 2 (Cross-Pollination)" ...
| | Rolling Stones Let It Bleed CD (1969)
Have Mercy CD music
$14.19 The last Stones studio album of the '60s finds the band, for perhaps the first time, accurately reflecting the spirit of its age. The erstwhile bad boy outsiders of rock now found themselves firmly in the center of the social and political post-'68 whirlwind, and faced up to the challenge magnificently. The band's confident climb to its artistic peak was begun by BEGGAR'S BANQUET, but LET IT BLEED is a quantum leap even from that musical milestone.
The album's opener, "Gimme Shelter," with its insinuating guitar introduction, leads us decisively out of Flower Power and into a world where rape ...
| | King Tubby's In Fine Style Vinyl LP (2004)
Have Mercy music CDs
$42.15 The question of who invented dub may never be answered, but King Tubby is a serious contender. In the 1970s, as he helped to pioneer, develop, and master the possibilities of the genre, Tubby produced hundreds of records, subsequently resulting in dozens of compilations. Many of these are quite good, and of interest to collectors, but IN FINE STYLE may be the definitive Tubby ...
| | Benni Hemm Hemm Kajak Vinyl LP (2007)
Have Mercy songs
$15.69 Even though Benedikt H. Hermannsonn comes from Iceland, the warmly melancholic indie pop he plays with his group Benni Hemm Hemm has much more to do with American acts Neutral Milk Hotel or Sufjan Stevens than compatriots Björk or Sigur Rós. With his acoustic guitar and voice backed by horns, drums, glockenspiel, ...
