(1 Customer Review)
This live DVD includes 14 songs plus a documentary. With former Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell at the helm and ex-Rage Against the Machine members backing him, Audioslave was an instant success when they emerged in the early 21st century. They delivered on the expectations that such a super-group would inspire, with catchy, hard-driving riffs and the occasional ballad. This filmed concert took place in 2005 in Cuba, and features a song selection that samples Soundgarden ("Spoonman" and "Black Hole Sun") as well as Audioslave ("Like a Stone," "I am the Highway"). Audioslave - Live In Cuba film
$13.79 Anthems of Rebellion continues in the same vein as Wages of Sin. Arch Enemy doesn't come up with the most original ideas or riffs, but the twin guitar attack of Christopher Amott and his brother, Michael, is appetizing, tuneful, and rocks out without getting bogged down too much in self-indulgent displays of virtuosity. Vocalist Angela Gossow sounds ferocious, but her singing also sounds too samey at times and may be a too harsh to perfectly fit the band, even though she sounds a bit more polished than the group's previous vocalist, Johan Liiva. Meanwhile,Gossow and Michael Amott provide lyrics that address oppression, alienation, and dehumanization (including a song titled "Dehumanization" and featuring words such as "Sowing a seed of suffering/Upon their fertile hearts/Damned misled children/You never stood a chance"). In general, the lyrics ...
| | From Autumn To Ashes Fiction We Live CD (2003)
Audioslave - Live In Cuba review
$11.49 Long Island's From Autumn To Ashes (or FATA to their friends) achieved success with their brand of high-octane metalcore the old-fashioned way--with the assistance of a loyal fan base, the product of an exacting performing schedule that included a high-profile 2003 Warped Tour. Their second album, THE FICTION WE LIVE, builds on the foundations of their debut, TOO BAD YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL, itself something of a departure from metal norms.
The band's imaginative take on what can often be a derivative field features airy, seemingly unpremeditated arrangements that combine the requisite half-man/half-monster vocals of lead singer Ben Perri with the more plaintive stylings of drummer/vocalist Fran Mark (whose Neil Peart-influenced percussive assault stands in wild contrast to his almost high-lonesome voicings). Songs such as "The After Dinner Payback," with its switchback tempo changes, are a dynamic shot in the arm to a genre ...
| | Arch Enemy Dead Eyes See No Future CD (2004)
Audioslave - Live In Cuba DVD
$9.85 Released in the fall of 2004 to coincide with one of the band's numerous tours of the U.S., Arch Enemy's Dead Eyes See No Future EP takes its title track from the previous year's widely acclaimed Anthems of Rebellion album, then piles on the extras for the benefit of die-hard fans. Live tracks include crowd favorites "Burning Angel," "We Will Rise" (complete with cornball intro), and a commanding stomp through "Heart of Darkness." Next, three entertaining covers call out to the elder metal faithful, as the band takes a swing at Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction" (a tad staid, frankly), Manowar's "Kill With Power" (gloriously moronic fun), and Carcass' "Incarnated Solvent Abuse" (a nice trip down memory lane toward guitarist Michael Amott's old exploits). And for a final bit ...
| | Arch Enemy Doomsday Machine CD (2005) Enhanced CD
Audioslave - Live In Cuba movie DVD
$11.85 DOOMSDAY MACHINE carries the torch of memorable, riff-laden metal established on Arch Enemy's previous albums, a sound fueled by the guitar work of brothers Chris and Michael Amott (the latter formerly of Carcass). "Mechanic God Creation" beats with a classic metal heart, intensified by modern and extreme metal touches. "Slaves Of Yesterday" and "Machtkampf" brandish ripping solos and keen note choice, while "I Am Legend/Out For Blood" grooves with old-school thrash abandon. In the competitive realm of melodic death metal, Arch Enemy continues to evolve and remain vital.
As the first band of its kind to feature a female ...

$16.69 Closed Captioned; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re
A cut above the average life-on-the-road-with-the-band film, ABBA: THE MOVIE emerged in 1977 at the height of the Swedish band's enormous global fame. Shot in Australia by fellow Swede Lasse Hallstrom (CHOCOLAT, THE CIDER HOUSE RULES), the film is ostensibly designed to give viewers a glimpse at the off-stage life enjoyed by the members of Abba, as well as the on-stage euphoria of their live shows. But there is also a fictional plot neatly interwoven into the action, with Hallstom's cameras following an Australian DJ named Austin (Robert Hughes), who tries to clinch an exclusive interview with the band as they tour his native country. This proves to be ...
| | Nirvana - Unplugged In New York DVD (2007) DTS Sound
Audioslave - Live In Cuba film
$10.09 Kurt Cobain loved to confound his fans' expectations during his brief stint in the spotlight. So when Nirvana gathered in New York City on November 18, 1993, he had another trick up his sleeve--an acoustic performance of the raw, ferocious grunge songs that propelled the band to stardom. The results were startling, and for many viewers a hidden depth to Cobain's songwriting talents were revealed as gentle renditions of NEVERMIND staples such as "On a Plain" and "Come As You Are" were stripped down and performed for a specially invited audience. Among the many highlights is the performance of "Jesus Don't Want Me For a Sunbeam," which was ...

Audioslave - Live In Cuba video
$15.45 Using a nonchronological narrative style à la CITIZEN KANE (from which he quotes), director Oliver Stone explores former president Richard Nixon's strict Quaker upbringing, his nascent political strivings in law school, and his strangely self-effacing courtship of his wife, Pat (played by Joan Allen). The contradictions in his character are revealed early, in the vicious campaign against Helen Gahagan Douglas and the oddly masochistic Checkers speech. His defeat at the hands of the hated and envied John F. Kennedy in the 1960 presidential election, followed by the loss of the 1962 California gubernatorial race, seem to signal the end of his career. Yet, although wholly lacking in charisma, Nixon remains a brilliant political operator,
seizing the opportunity provided ...
