| | Go: The Very Best Of Moby CDs (2006) Deluxe Edition
Dume CD music
$14.65 Issued in 2006, GO is the first Moby compilation to include both the New York City-based electronica artist's early-1990s singles and material from his '99 mainstream breakthrough album, PLAY, and beyond. In addition to an update of the rave-steeped title track, the collection presents fan favorites such as the soulful "Honey" and the shimmering ambient composition "God Moving Over the Face of the Waters." The two-CD set also includes the previously unreleased "New York, New York," featuring ...
| | Justice Cross CD (2007)
Dume music CDs
$11.65 It could be said that electronic musicians have a tendency to obsess over sonic detail in a way that your average garage rock band may find hard to understand. The young Parisian duo Justice (Gaspard Auge and Xavier de Rosnay), seem, for the most part, unfettered by niceties such as sonic subtlety or restraint. Combining French-touch house with large doses of heavy-metal hedonism, the group's debut, CROSS, privileges rock's devil-may-care mid-range thrash over electro's low-frequency thump.
The album, in classic rave style, is all about colossal riffs. Whether through its swirling synth sweeps or pile-driving funk loops, CROSS has an insistent, torqued, vaguely druggy quality that's resolutely unsubtle. If the album embraced such high-octane thrills for its entire length, it would surely have overstayed its welcome. But Justice manages to pull out a corker of a pop-crossover hit with "D.A.N.C.E.," the album's first single. Instantly hummable, with its Sesame Street style sing-along chorus, the song is an ebullient, slightly nostalgic nod to '80s electro-funk. Reminiscent of another album that ignited a youth culture revolution (Daft Punk's HOMEWORK), Justice seem intent on winning a new generation ...
| | U N K L E Psyence Fiction CD (1998)
Dume songs
$11.99 In the UK, where both electronica and brash guitar rock are bigger chart-toppers than in the US, artists are a lot freer about mixing the two styles. Hence UNKLE, the project of James Lavelle and illbient hero DJ Shadow. The duo puts their sampling/looping expertise to work in the service ...
| | Enigma Voyageur (Deluxe) CD (2003) Special Package
Dume album
$11.55 In 1991, if any musical artist seemed a candidate for one-hit wonder status, it was Enigma. Not that "Sadeness Part 1" displayed any lack for talent, but the hit was certainly unusual. Worthy of his nom du disc, Michael Cretu released the bizarre, sexually charged Gregorian chant-driven New Age dance song under veils of mystery. Journalists speculated about his identity, as the song ignited controversy in country after country, topping the charts in most of them and going into top 5 in the United States.
Enigma has proven to be enduring and deservedly so, as his odd hybrid concoctions are simultaneously inventive and engagingly poppy. The fifth album, VOYAGEUR, finds Cretu ...
| | Donnie Darko CD (2002)
Dume CD music
$14.65 The most remarkable thing about Richard Kelly's directorial debut, Donnie Darko, is its sheer tenacity. After suffering the fatal blow of a post-September 11 release date, the ominous film, which features the destruction of a sleepy suburban household by a falling jet engine, was pulled from theaters. Its subsequent release on video garnered a rabid fan base that elevated the movie to cult status, spawning hundreds of websites devoted to untangling its spidery threads of time-travel logic and spiritual chicanery. Rookie composer Michael Andrews, whose only previous work was for television's Freaks and Geeks, captures the underlying dread and unsettling beauty of the film by remaining reverent to it. Clocking in at just over 30 minutes, the heart of the piece is a pulsing, hypnotic waltz that transports you to the alternate-reality Middlesex, VA where the film takes place. His use of period (1980s) synths and a voxophone, tastefully punctuated by sparse choral arrangements, evoke a Danny Elfman score leached of bombast and quivering in its naked form. Like Air's soundtrack to The Virgin Suicides, Andrews' songs create such a specific sense of place that an entirely different ...

Dume album
$11.39 With the 'seven nights' full length looming large on the horizon and due for impact early next year, 'Other Worlds' is the third outing from DJ Methodist (better known to acquaintances as Post Office records head honcho David Handford) and follows the much loved visitations to these pages of his cover of Joy Divisions 'Digital' and 'Sirens' releases. A simple but effective sounding buzzing sugar laced cosmic corker cut through with lunatic swirls, pining stratospheric signatures and stuttering cool zig zagging rhythms which to these ears sound not so dissimilar in texture, delivery and overall design as a marriage of convenience between J Xaverre and Tex La Homa convened over by Magoo (which I'm sure you'll agree is no mean feat) dispatching lovelorn odes from the stars from decoded messages ...

| | Crispian St Peters Pied Piper Vinyl LP (1995) (Import)
Dume songs
$38.69 Crispian St. Peters' two hits, "You Were On My Mind" and "The Pied Piper," coupled with his rocking cover of "Changes," are the highlights of this 20-song collection, mostly second-rate folk-rock and pop-rock. "My Little Brown Eyes" and "No No No" could have made him a rival to Tom Jones at the mid-1960s phase of his career, while "It's a Funny Feeling" might have given Dave Berry a run for his money. "What I'm Gonna Be" is a nice ...
