That Warm Summer Moon album
$13.99 Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success of her self-titled 2006 debut, there's nothing at all diva-like about Swift on FEARLESS: she's soft-spoken and considerate, a big sister instead of a big star. Nowhere is this truer than on "Fifteen," a kind warning for a teen to watch her heart sung from the perspective of a woman who's perhaps twice that age--a sly trick for the 18-year-old Swift. There may be a hint of youthfulness to her singing but that's the only hint of girlishness here; her writing--and she had a hand in penning all 13 tracks here, with six of them bearing her solitary credit--is sharply, subtly crafted and the music is softly assured, never pushing its hooks too hard. Like many country-pop albums of the 2000s, the pop heavily outweighs the country--there aren't fiddles here, there are violins--yet the production never feels garish, a crass attempt at a crossover success. It's small-scale and sweetly tuneful, always seeming humble even when the power ballads ...
| | Carrie Underwood Play On CD (2009)
That Warm Summer Moon CD music
$12.95 Daisy in her hair aside, Carrie Underwood looks flat-out glamorous on the cover of PLAY ON, which is a pretty fair indication of what awaits listeners on her third album. Carrie is still nominally a country artist and sometimes will sing supported by fiddles and steel guitar, but this is crossover pop pure and simple, whether it's the thundering rhythms on the Shania-styled strut "Cowboy Casanova" or the succession of maudlin melodies on the preponderance of power ballads. Carrie takes a much stronger presence as a writer here, co-authoring seven of the 13 songs, and she's ...

| | Brooks & Dunn Greatest Hits Collection CD (1997)
That Warm Summer Moon album
$9.59 A greatest hits collection is almost a redundancy for this chart-topping contemporary country duo, since nearly everything they touch turns to gold (if not platinum). Nevertheless, this compilation condenses the band's catalog, including three brand new tracks, into 19 sparkling gems of country-pop, bound to please both longtime fans and curious first-timers. They're all here, from the band's stellar cover of the pop hit "My Maria" to beer-swiggin' jukebox faves like "Boot Scootin' Boogie" and "Honky Tonk Truth."
What comes across most strongly on this album is the consistency of Brooks and Dunn's work, as it moves from house-rockin' uptempo numbers to sentimental ballads without losing a step. Every track features top-notch performances from great Nashville studio musicians, state-of-the-art production, and of course, ...

| | Carroll Brown Homegrown Love CD (2007)
That Warm Summer Moon songs
$15.19 About Carroll Brown I'm glad you dropped by ... My name is Carroll Brown and I've made my living performing and recording popular and original acoustic music since 1974. For those of you who don't know me, my musical talents have been described as very good and my shows and recordings are lively and entertaining and contain songs and stories of real people and events. I play a good guitar, write a decent song and sing on pitch. My projects are professionally recorded and seldom disappoint the buyer. Much of my work is performed solo in music pubs and concert events throughout the American southeast. Many of these events are filled with college kids and some cater to older folks. I don't play with any electronic side equipment and I don't crack up any guitars in my show, but many listeners go out of the way to come back again. Many bring their parents or their friends when they return and that is a part of what motivates me to continue to do what makes my living. Supporting my family is the main reason I work as hard as I do (see schedule). My wife (since 1976) and son and daughter are a great source of strength for me. We ...
