Impulsive music CDs
$12.55 Aquariums - a collection of ambitious and intense personal songs in an experimental/acoustic styleThis ambitious album of experimental ambient acoustic music comes from the heart of Music City USA and the body and soul of one man: Martin Schneider. I have been playing the guitar since I turned fourteen and in bands nearly as long. Aquariums, my first solo endeavor, started almost two years ago. Conceptual Realizations is a collection of songs written and recorded from January 2006 to July 2007. Some of them took over a full year to reach their final form contained herein. From the start I chose not to employ a defined genre in which to write. Instead I chose to focus on composing songs based around emotions and events that deeply affected me. So if stylistically the songs are not all congruent, there is a thread that ties all of them together: emotion.I recorded the entirety in solitude at the various houses and apartments I have occupied in the past year and a half. The genesis of the collection, 'Aquariums', was written while reading The Aquariums of Pyongyang by Kang Chol-Hwan translated by Pierre Rigoulot. This haunting memoir details the tribulations of North Korean, Kang Chol-Hwan, and his family who were imprisoned in a hard labor camp in North Korea. Mr. Chol-Hwan languished there from the age of nine to eighteen. I wrote 'Aquariums' about his life prior to his family's imprisonment. Reading about the cruelty of the people that surrounded him, even the children, was very disturbing. 'Escape' takes place after his release from the labor camp, and is about his journey out of North Korea into China and eventually to South Korea. Reading this book kick-started the creative process and is where the name for the project originated. The remainder of the collection, written to capture different emotions that I have experienced in the past year in musical form, includes '1991', 'Lovely Mother', and 'Love of a Brother'. Looking through the contents of my grandfather's dresser drawer and thinking back on the December that he passed on moved me. Later that night, while wearing his watch and feverishly etching out lyrics on the inside foil of an empty pack of cigarettes, '1991' was written. I wrote 'Lovely Mother' in much the same fashion. My girlfriend's mother had just taken a downward turn and my girlfriend was devastated. It was painful to see her suffer. I wanted to write her a somber, compassionate song to show her how I felt. I knew how it should sound, but the lyrics would not come. While visiting my brother in Savannah, I explained to him how I was feeling and what I wanted to express in verse when the lyrics finally came to me. Once I came up with the lyrics, I knew the song had to be in two parts: the first expressing how I felt and the second conveying the relationship between my girlfriend and her mother. These lyrics were written in one sitting and I was less concerned with rhyme than describing a complete ...

| | Danny Reid Carter Barcelona CD (2007)
Impulsive CD music
$11.99 "BARCELONA"...January 2008*A review of Danny's debut solo album 'Barcelona' from London based mega music magazine Maverick...Feb. 2008 edition.Danny Reid CarterBarcelonaTree O Records****Sparkling solo debut from Carter Brothers Band mainstay. This album starts off with a gently strummed mandolin on the opener Black As Love. Don't let this fool you as the track builds up into a full blown rocker. The idea for BARCELONA came to Danny when he was touring Spain with the band and from the opening seconds, when the Moorish style drums kick in, you can feel the influence. Danny was raised in the mountains of North Carolina where he moved from listening to the local Appalachian folk and bluegrass to the harder rock sounds of bands like Led Zeppelin. In this record he has managed to pull together all of these influences to make an astonishingly complete record. The second track Green River moves us back from Spain to a simple eulogy to his home land. The backing to this track is absolutely marvelous with Danny's trademark vintage 1967 Rickenbacker 360-12 sparkling along over fantastic Hammond B-3 played by former longtime Allman Brothers Band keyboardist, Johnny Neel. Given that the backing vocalist is one of my personal favourites, Tanya Dennis, it makes for a classic track. Next up is Hillbilly Hollywood, another of the long line of songs of disenchantment of the City of Angels and praise of the simple life back home. Straight up 12 bar country blues next with the simple My Baby Thinks I'm Great. Helping Danny out on this is long time friend Jack Pearson, who plays acoustic resonator slide guitar. Pearson is well known for his work with Steely Dan and his six tours with the Allman Brothers so you can guess that the playing is superb. A rockier track follows, The ...
| | New Digital Sound Species Protector Volume Two CD (2007)
Impulsive music CDs
$5.69 The idea behind The New Digital Sound started around 1995 in dirty basements strewn throughout various Massachusetts suburbs by Copelinn. His D. I. Y. approach was a result of frustration with the then dead local band scene. Early NDS songs were recorded using no more than a multitude of guitar stomp boxes, outdated drum machines, and simple analog four track tape recorders. While the early recordings were crude and imperfect, they showed a glimmer as to what direction Copelinn and The New Digital Sound was going. It was around this time that Copelinn discovered artists such as Moby, DJ Shadow, Roni Size, Atari Teenage Riot, William Orbit, Underworld, The Pixies, The Clash, Tricky, Nine Inch Nails, Front 242, Joy Division, KMFDM, My Life With Thrill Kill Cult, Marilyn Manson and others. He found himself completely enamored with the idea of self-production and computer technology to achieve it. In 1999, amidst pre millennium hysteria, he befriended The Jack Bohlen Book Club brainchild Kevin Murphy while working a local record store. It was a result of this friendship that Copelinn then began his ever changing production style and D. I. Y. approach to musical creation: create the most dissonant music possible using technology. Armed with an HP Pavilion ...
