(1 Customer Review)
With 1986's STRONG PERSUADER, Robert Cray ascended to the blues ladder's highest rung. LIVE AT THE BBC documents Cray's BBC performances in the wake of that ascension, in the late-'80s/early-'90s. Performing material from his MIDNIGHT STROLL and DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK albums, Cray is at the peak of his powers as a soulful singer and crisp, biting, Albert Collins-influenced guitar soloist, as he leaps heartily into the emotionally complex, insidiously grooving tunes that helped cement his reputation as the king of contemporary blues.
2008 two CD set containing the very best of his BBC Concert performances, recorded between 1988-1991 during the tours to promote Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark and Midnight Stroll. Robert Cray is one of the few blues artists who managed to cultivate a mainstream following in the 1980s and 1990s. In the course of a long-running career that began in the 1970s, he uniquely blended elements of Rhythm and Blues, Pop, and traditional Blues to win fans to a more contemporary Blues sound. He has to date, received five Grammy Awards for his innovative style. 14 tracks. Universal.Alternative Press (p.89) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "The earlier selections, including the title track of DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, showcase the style that got Cray noticed, while the remainder reflect a move towards a more soul-based approach..." Down Beat (p.79) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "He riskily throws himself into 'These Things,' an inner power governing his emotions down to the smallest detail." Live At The BBC CD music
$13.25 Mess of Blues contains ten cuts, all of them chosen by Healey from what he considered "audience favorites," rather than his own or his fine band's preferred tunes. Four of these were recorded in front of audiences at the Islington Academy in London and, appropriately enough, at Healey's Roadhouse (his club) in Toronto. The other six were cut at Studio 92 in Canada by Norm Barker and Richard Uglow. Make no mistake: while this an electric blues record to be sure, the very eclectic selection ...
| | Usher 8701 CD (2001)
Live At The BBC music CDs
$9.59 "U Remind Me" won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
"U Don't Have To Call" won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
R&B mack daddy Usher puts a lot of himself into 8701; that's apparent even from the title itself, which represents the year Usher began exploring the world of music ('87) and the place where music brought him by the time of this recording ('01). He starts thing out in grand style with the romantic "U Remind Me." "I Don't Know" takes a hip-hop turn with a contribution from P. Diddy (that's Puff Daddy for those of you arriving late), but Usher is quick to point out that he's strictly about partying and loving, not about thug life. While there are some amped-up, percolating tunes that make good use of Usher's high energy ("I Can't Let U Go"), he really hits his stride when he ...

Live At The BBC songs
$7.99 BIOGRAPHY:The thing you notice most at an Art of Chaos show is just how much they love playing. It is not just about making music for this Los Angeles-based alternative hard-rock band, it's more about having a conversation with their audience. Playing live gives these guys energy, and the audience picks up on that. The crowd becomes participants, and it fuels the band to dig in harder, take risks, and explore new ground. It's no wonder that Art of Chaos is building a strong following throughout California, the US and other parts of the Wold, delivering to audiences who are looking for something more in their hard rock.Art of Chaos fuses nü-metal, alternative and hard rock influences to forge a sound uniquely their own. Founded just over a two years ago, the band includes singer Brian Torres, guitarists Matt Ardisson and Miles Knowls, bassist Jeff Sutton and drummer Dave Feldman. The five have been writing, rehearsing ...

| | Chris Hicks Dog Eat Dog World CD (2008)
Live At The BBC songs
$10.25 Having played with the Marshall Tucker Band since 1998, guitarist Chris Hicks has little time to focus on a solo career. Dog Eat Dog World marks his second album in ten years, and while it's apparent that being a frontman isn't his primary focus, Hicks' sophomore effort shows him to be a fairly competent singer/songwriter in his own right. Long drawn-out solos and extensive guitar noodling could sink this sort of record, but Hicks often downplays the instrument, focusing instead on tight nuggets of Southern rock that aren't exclusively aimed at guitar fanatics. For someone whose ...
