Ian Miller album
$11.95 Blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa gets up to his usual tricks on THE BALLAD OF JOHN HENRY, dabbling in a variety of genres, but injecting them all with a serious dose of guitar heroics. Like his musical forefather Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bonamassa is both soulful and a shredder, and he brings those qualities to tracks like Tom Waits's "Jockey Full of Bourbon," Ike & Tina Turner's "Funkier Than a Mosquito's ...

| | Paul Butterfield Blues Band CD (1965)
Ian Miller music CDs
$6.19 The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) heard this and had their lives changed forever. In fact, for at least a year after the album's release in 1965, it was impossible to walk down the hall of any college dorm in America without hearing one of the songs here echoing from somebody's room.
Heard today, the thing still packs a wallop. Butterfield's harmonica and vocals are utterly idiomatic, without a hint of minstrelsy. Michael Bloomfield's lead guitar is stinging and eloquent, and the rhythm section, on loan from Howling Wolf, swings like mad. ...

| | As One So Far... (So Good) CDs (2003)
Ian Miller album
$14.65 There are reasons to be skeptical of Kirk Degiorgio. In interviews, he often comes off as a jazz snob with strictly defined parameters of what constitutes proper music. In self-penned liner notes, listeners have been notified of the historical nature of his productions, and have also been instructed to "savour their importance." Important -- OK, whatever, but are they any good? Are they enjoyable to listen to? Do they have the ability to move you? Are they the least bit innovative? The answer to all of these questions is yes. Across two discs, So Far (So Good), an anthology documenting Degiorgio's work as As One, provides an argument for these answers as strong as any other. It appeals to disciples and newcomers alike with previously released material -- most of which is strong -- included within a set of selections that glean from each As One album, with the unfortunate exception of Planetary Folklore. Degiorgio has left plenty of goods behind during the years documented here, all of which help solidify the producer as one of techno's most crucial and vital. There's enough room for most of his facets to be highlighted, from equally forceful and nimble breakbeat workouts ("The Electric Hymn," "If It Ain't Broke") to stomping house-oriented tracks ("Epic," "We No Longer Understand") to romantically crushing ambient techno ("Amalia," "Reunion"). Although many of the familiar have no doubt pored over the track listing and have scoffed at omissions and inclusions, the most glaring mistake this compilation makes is that it doesn't acknowledge his limited but exceptional work with vocalists; surely "Problems" or "I'll Be Lovin' You" would've been more at home here than the 2-step misstep "Contours." Like many of his heroes, Degiorgio seems to have his sights set on longevity. Given the fact that his last two albums have also been his best, here's hoping that a successor to this compilation will someday ...

$10.15 EBONMORTIS is a violent plague that was spawned just out side of the Chicagoland area in Hammond Indiana... Bacteria from the surrounding wasteland, has gathered strength and formed this mist of nocturnal wretch...A vicious blend of all things DARK,FAST,BRUTAL,CHUNKY and MELODIC... This plague to conquer all has been unleashed and set out for slaughter. The band formed in 2004 with Dave Gormely and Josh Dwiel on guitars, Brian Scott on Drums and Cuntry on Vocals. EBONMORTIS was complete... But shortly after Eric's arrival, Dave had to leave the band. It wasn't long until Face, a long time friend of the band, joined as Dave's replacement. Now ...
