| | Once Nothing First Came The Law CD Once Nothing Discography of CDs
Pittsburgh's Once Nothing describe themselves as "blue-collar metal," but in fact, the group blends post-hardcore and alternative CCM with their metal for a sound that's fairly far removed from the Bon Jovi vibe one might expect from that self-definition. In fact, the hardcore strain is the strongest in these 12 songs, with only the semi-acoustic power ballad "My Sweet Medusa" and the album-ending instrumental "And Then Came Grace" moving away from the blastbeat drumming and unison riffage one expects from the style. Lyrically, the band tends to the aggressive and mildly reactionary, as titles like "Gunfire Is the Sound of Freedom" and "All My Heroes Are Cowboys" attest. Almost by definition, listeners have to be fans of at least two of the three main elements of the album -- metal, hardcore and CCM -- to get behind First Came the Law, and only those who hit the trifecta will really love it. ~ Stewart Mason
Once Nothing: Todd Lowry (vocals); Josh Branas (guitar); Steve Lucarelli (bass guitar); Giuseppe Capolupo (drums).

$13.15 The first waking moments of the day are, for me, often the clearest thoughts of the day. And over a period of weeks, I awoke everyday with the notion that I should make a musical statement of faith. Understand that I had no thought of it the night before, it was simply my very first waking thought. I had never experienced that before, even though I had been in many music projects over the years. Rock bands, dance bands, big bands, club circuits, hotel circuits, floorshows, happy hour sets, weddings, parties, cocktail lounges, festivals and concerts. Why now? I don't know, but here it is. Just had to be done. I wrote some of the songs after we had already begun the recording process and in the end, was delighted at the contributions made by musicians Michael Spencer, Luther Richards, Joshua Duffy, Duane Massey, Cliff Faldowski, Henry Boatwright, Reggie Goebel, Ken Mondshine, Mike Luna, Daniel Saenz, and 'my brother from another mother' Britt White. ...
