Great series, worth picking up
One of the best anime series ever. And the CD Universe price can't be beat for the box set. Comes with the first Japanese soundtrack as a bonus.

Mind blowing
I bought the DVD set after hearing constant praise for the series. It was said to be "classy". I wasn't sure how I would feel after watching it. Well, I agree with everythign that I heard. This series is outstanding.
I have to say that the series is very "American" (which may be a good or bad thing, depending on you). Personally, I thought it was a refreshing change. The first thing that hits you is the music, a mixture of jazz and blues that lingers in your mind (Yoko Kanno is way cool). The background and settings are very detailed and well thought out. There is an underlying tone of humor in the series, but its apprpriately underplayed and does not distract from the powerful scenes that the series boasts of.
A very noticeable aspect was the character design. While Spike, Jet and Faye are impressive, the one episode characters that show up become surprisingly realistic in the space of just a few minutes. Just see the first episode and you'll know what I mean.
And yes, the series is very smooth. The animaiton is excellent even by OVA standards, and this was a TV series. But then, when the people involved in the making of Bebop read like a who's who of the anime industry, you have to expect that.
I won't talk about the anime story itself, except to say its set in the future about three space hopping bounty hunters. Sounds familiar? Well, don't judge it by that.
The DVD boxset is a fabulous gift. The video was very sharp and cleat, especially since I watched them right after another brand new anime DVD, and I could tell the difference. There is no blurriness at the lines, and the dark backgrounds and action sequesnces come out very well. The sound quality is great, it really adds a feel to the excellent music. I wasnt too impressed by the menu, but thats hardly a major factor.
The box itself is simplistic but eye catching, I liked the DVDs itself, they looked like LDs with their dark coloring. While I am not too fond of the jacket covers of the DVDs, they are consistent with the mood of the series. The back covers are quiet superb, designed like a newspaper report introducing us to the series and each DVD back gives us information about one of the main characters.
To sum it up, this is a must-buy. And CD universe has the lowest price. I know because I checked the net very thoroughly. So what are you waiting for?
