| Fun! Long Black Veil album for sale This is more than anything a fun CD to listen to, where many mostly American artists with dubious Irish ancestry try to sound Irish, and fail spectacularly. The exception is Sinead O'Connor, who, being the daughter of one of the non-permanent Chieftains members has this in the blood. Worth noting is that the lyrics to "She moved through the fair" has had a gender change -- O'Connor's version sings about a man, while the traditional song is about a woman. It's still a good performance. The performance by Sting isn't bad (except for his pronunciation), and Marianne Faithfull does a very convincing "Love is teasing" Ry Cooder, Mark Knopfler, Tom Jones and the Stones all are pretty pathetic, in an endearing sort of way. Van Morrison is just horrible. The sad thing is that he CAN sing celtic music. But this rendition of his hit "Have I Told You" leaves a lot to be desired. Like finding the "mute" button. As for the Chieftains parts, it's good old Chieftains having fun doing what they do best. For this being a MoFi remaster, it doesn't quite live up to the quality expectations. There is, for example, a loud pop at one place, which goes off the scale. It's still good, but worth paying the extra MoFi price for? I don't know. All in all, well worth having in your collection, simply because it's a fun CD. By Arthur (Simsbury, CT, USA) This review is for a different format. |
| I Love It I wasnt to sure about this type of music at first but now I love it. I would buy this tape if I had the money. It has a creative but sincere point of view. I hope to hear more of my heritage music like this. By iron_rose_petals3 (Massillon,OH,USA) This review is for a different format. |
