| | Ron Davis Subarashii Live CD Ron Davis Discography of CDs
Subarashii Live captures two capacity-audience concerts, given at the historic Paul Hahn Pianos, in Toronto, in April 2006. Subarashii is Japanese for great! Ron has toured Japan successfully three times. The title is a nod to the deep connection he feels. The album’s songs are as wide ranging and expansive as the Pacific Ocean he crossed to get there.Alleluja is a languid waltz, with saxophonist Richard Underhill’s beautiful horn arrangements. Mio Latino features two distinct Latin grooves. Whirlycurl is a high energy tune, based on the jazz classic I Found a New Baby. It leads into the exuberant Applausable Excuse, in which you feel the crowd’s enjoyment. Always inclusive, Ron takes great care to compose songs that let his band mates shine. Upside Downes features world-class bassist Mike Downes. This is followed by Le Réel de Pointe-au-Pic, an old-time Québecois fiddle tune, Ron performs with the gifted Ukrainian-Canadian clarinet and sax virtuoso, Sasha Boychouk. Pas mal, non? Next, drummer Ted Warren struts his stuff in Roundly Warren Ted. “It’s hard to exaggerate how highly we think of Ted- he’s a brilliant, one-of-a-kind innovator,” Ron boasts. From Ron’s 2004 album Mungle Music, D'Hora is one of Ron’s most popular tunes. It’s rearranged here for quintet, and everyone goes to town with its energy. Hoagy Carmichael’s The Nearness of You is the platform for a haunting piano / clarinet duo. “Listen closely, and you can hear the clarinet being played right into the piano, making all the strings resonate like a celestial harp,” says Ron.The album winds down with a crowd favourite Thomoachonga. The band lets loose, to the audible delight of the audience. The night, and the album softly say goodnight with an encore of Allelujah. The crowd left, wanting more. Radio Canada, Coda Magazine and JazzFM have honoured Ron’s 2 previous albums as Top 10 picks- Subarashii Live promises to top the charts as well! Ron Davis Subarashii Live Songs | 1. | Allelujah |

Subarashii Live songs
$6.25 (MP3 Available for Download) With BIRTH OF THE COOL, Miles Davis distilled a new tonal palette for jazz. As early as 1954, Miles reacted to the escalating chordal complexity of hard bop by fashioning an evocative blues based on a simple scalar pattern ("Swing Spring"). KIND OF BLUE was the ultimate fulfillment of this approach, with Miles providing his collaborators little more than outlines for melodies and simple scales for improvisation. By emphasizing the blues and the improvisor's melodic gifts, KIND OF BLUE precipitated a major stylistic development--modal jazz.
Charles Mingus had experimented with pedal points throughout the 1950s, and the melodic freedom of Ornette Coleman's Atlantic sides was also predicated on freedom ...

Subarashii Live music CDs
$10.05 Michael Buble's third major US release (including the mostly live COME FLY WITH ME) stays on message--this young Canadian loves the lush, swaying music of his parents' and grandparents' generations. Buble's albums, however, are much more than mere back-in-the-day exercises. The production and arranging of David Foster (Celine Dion, Josh Groban) is eclectic in a way that firmly places the tunes at the dawn of the 21st century, and, more importantly, Buble possesses the chops and sense of style to re-imagine ...

| | Adelaide Ruble Come Fly With Me CD (2005)
Subarashii Live album
$11.35 Adelaide Ruble evidently makes her debut recording as a leader with Come Fly with Me. The Washington, D.C., area resident digs deeply into a number of frequently recorded gems from the Great American Songbook, backed by a strong band anchored by keyboardist and guitarist Rick Eldridge and some terrific trombone by Harry Watters. Ruble has a warm alto voice and an almost conversation approach, though occasionally with a touch of excessive vibrato that seems to come from nervous energy. She's best on the slow ballads like a heartfelt "I Get Along Without You Very Well" (a lovely duet with Eldridge on piano) and a sassy, brisk treatment of "Devil May Care" (complemented by Watters' tasty licks). Ruble avoids many of the traps that singers can fall into, like running a song into the ground with excessive choruses (only one runs past the four-minute mark), though the CD is rather brief at just over 36 minutes. Adelaide Ruble's initial release is a promising beginning to her career as a recording artist. ~ Ken Dryden
