Susan Faucon is a jazz and blues composer, writer, vocalist and actor who in 2005 wrote and debuted her Theatrical Jazz Concert, Sweet Surrender: A Musical Herstory. This musical theatre production elegantly blends jazz and blues with a splash of theatre to share one woman’s struggle with physical image, self esteem, materialism, addiction, suicide and spirituality and her painful yet humorous surrender into the possibility of a new life, a sweeter reality. Set as an elegant club concert, Susan and her jazz trio blend an all-original score with smart, humorous and profoundly honest dialogue to share this moving story about the struggle between living and dying and the possibility of choosing a different reality. Sweet Surrender has been performed and embraced by theatre and club audiences in Washington, DC and surrounding areas, including a sold out house at the well-known jazz club, Blues Alley. Sweet Surrender has the biting truth and humor of Eve Ensler's, Vagina Monologues and the format and musical elegance of Lanie Robertson’s, Lady Day at the Emerson Bar and Grill. The media has responded in kind: "Susan draws her music from a deep and honest well. She has discovered a truth and shares it generously. You will be moved”, says Neenah Ellis, public radio producer and author of "If I Live to be 100." Chris Slattery, a journalist from The Gazette had this to say: “Faucon's story is compelling, powerful and authentic. Sweet Surrender, with its observations on what it means to be a woman in the modern age, adds expertly played jazz and rhythm and blues to Faucon's inspiring story of despair and redemption.” WPFW (89.3), a Washington jazz radio station has interviewed Susan several times, has added her CD to their play list and continues to be a strong supporter. Faucon performs in jazz clubs, theatres, select private events, schools, institutions, shelters and festivals—all of which present the unmistakable evidence of an artist truly coming into her own… “I’ve seen all the great contemporary women jazz vocalists from Cassandra Wilson to Diana Krall,” comments the journalist/author/documentary filmmaker Martin Torgoff, who covered music as a producer for CNN Worldbeat. “Susan’s rich alto voice is filled with exceptional control, vibrant diversity and the raw truth of a life lived with dramatic abandon, exquisite passion and the love of song. It’s a voice that calls to mind the clean tones of Barbara Streisand, the interpretive style of Billy Holiday and the bluesy fullness of Bonnie Raitt. When she performs, her warm and approachable manner invites everyone around her to feel at ease with the world and to be wonderfully entertained.” We Exist-Theatrical Jazz Concert Music | Category | Jazz Albums | | Label | CD Baby | | CD Universe Part number | 7577476 | | Catalog number | 155306 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Oct 23, 2007 |
