| | Melissa Reaves Rough Cuts CD Melissa Reaves Discography of CDs
Melissa Reaves' well-received new release, Rough Cuts, appeared on the music scene in late May 2004. Recorded in just two days at The Loft in Bronxville, New York, the album is a melodic departure from Melissa's trademark high-octane rock n' blues. Rough Cuts offers audiences a heartbreakingly soulful introduction to the Melissa Reaves experience. When Melissa Reaves puts on a show, she does more than entertain audiences - she gives them a refreshingly authentic rock n' blues experience. Hailing from Boone, North Carolina, Melissa's music has southern charm, but she's no belle. This steel magnolia has well over a decade of songwriting experience and has created a sizable international following with her experimental guitar work, biting lyrics, powerful vocals and charismatic stage presence. Melissa's prominence on the independent scene has garnered attention of various media outlets including CMJ, the Oxygen Channel, On-Line TV, the Discovery Channel and NYC's Manhattan Mirror, which raved, "Melissa sings the blues all heart and soul...she delivered the goods and shook the place." Charlotte's Creative Loafing has joined in the applause of Melissa's electrifying live presence saying Melissa has, "a powerful, well-trained voice straight from the Janis Joplin school of wail and a guitar burn that's efficient and snug." A tireless performer, Melissa plays over 200 fiery shows a year. She's shared the stage with artists such as Robert Plant, Cyndi Lauper, Sarah McLachlan, Little Feat, Sheryl Crowe, Vassar Clements, Doc Watson,Leon Russel and Peter Tork. Her tour dates have included shows that brought the house down at venues as diverse as Lilith Fair, Midem International Music Conference and a National Endowment for the Arts showcase. Melissa's discography includes Fall From Grace (1995), Lullaby for Belle (1998), Sentimental Anthem (1999), and inclusion on the Go On Girl 2 (2000) compilation. Her most recent release, Rough Cuts (2004), is a slight departure from her high-octane live material offering audiences a heartbreakingly soulful example of Melissa's phenomenal range as a musician. The experimental pedal work and Melissa's avant-garde nature give her shows an unexpected edge. Melissa often admits, "Many parts of the shows (band and solo) are completely freestyle. It's unfolding before the audience and me at the same time." The result of Melissa's wide-open performances is a unique musical experience that reveals the rare talent of an artist who is on the verge of major recognition. A tireless live performer, Melissa will be embarking on a national tour in fall 2004. Rough Cuts album
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the ...

Rough Cuts music CDs
$6.49 On the original LP, the song "Drifting Blues" faded out after about 3 minutes. The CD contains the complete 11:31 version.
Released in the same year as 1975's THERE'S ONE IN EVERY CROWD, E.C. WAS HERE is a live album short on content but long in presentation. Backed by his usual mid-70's studio cohorts (George Terry, Jamie Oldaker, Yvonne Elliman, Marcy Levy, etc.), Clapton ignored his then-current material off CROWD and 461 OCEAN BOULEVARD, instead choosing to explore his immediate, post-Cream era along with some extended, old favorites. "Presence Of The Lord" and "Can't Find My Way Home" were retrieved from Blind Faith's sole album and both are infused with a subtle, spiritual feeling of ...

$8.49 Recorded in Memphis, Tennessee and Chicago, Illinois between 1951 and March 1959. Originally released on Chess (9195) in 1959. Includes original liner notes by Ralph Bass.
Recorded in Chicago, Illinois between June 24, 1957 and May 1961. Originally released on Chess in 1962. Includes original liner notes by Paul Ackerman.
Simply put, this disc is indispensable for anyone interested in blues, rock, or good music in general. One of the rare, genuine "deals" on record store shelves, this two-fer compiles Howlin' Wolf's first two full-length albums on one CD and offers twenty-two tracks of the man's absolute finest. These are the essential documents of the man who was the last word in electric Chicago blues--a unique and riveting performer whose voice could loose buildings from their foundations and remove skin from bone.
