Few albums in pop music history have the legacy of Michael Jackson's THRILLER. Not only was the 1983 landmark one of the biggest-selling albums ever, its influence touched R&B, quiet storm, rock, hip-hop, and practically every other genre in the decades that followed. The 25th ANNIVERSARY EDITION gives the world the chance to re-evaluate this classic.
For starters, the original tracks hold up marvelously. The luster hasn't worn from the pure pop gems "Billie Jean" and "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," from the taut energy of "Beat It" and "Thriller," or the soft, intimate pulse of "Human Nature." Quincy Jones's crisp, multi-layered production seems even more masterly in hindsight. The set includes seven bonus tracks, including the previously unreleased ballad "For All Time" from the original sessions, while remixes from will i. am, Akon, Fergie, and Kanye West underscore THRILLER's influence on contemporary pop. The package also comes with a bonus DVD featuring digitally restored versions of the album's classic videos, and a 48-page color booklet complete with lyrics, rare photos and a personal greeting from Michael. The album and its colossal legacy come out no worse in the bargain.
The finest example of perfect disco pop, and a record that should be prescribed to musical snobs and manic depressives. The album is a true ambassador of what pop music can be. Jackson whoops and dances through a suite of unforgettable melodies that should be danced to with a smile on your face. Each track offers at least one musical hook, whether it is the beauty of 'Human Nature' (who can resist the 'dada dada da da da') or the 'whoo whoo' of 'Billie Jean'. It's all too good.
Principally recorded at Westlake Audio, Los Angeles, California.

| Thriller Music Review Average Rating: (3.7 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews squarebiz you are retarded if you would have BOUGHT the re release, the original thriller is on there, sounding better than ever! what sense does it make to give the album a low rating when it contains the original songs? if you dont like akon then fine, but respect the fact that these artists actually chose to give respect to michael unlike the tons of artists that rip him off every day till this day that didnt record for the album.
your review is useless!
if u like thriller & want the dvds for the videos you should buy it! the new songs are okay, but who's buying the album for those? this cd is awesome & i am so glad it came out again. Its worth the price just for the Motown 25 footage! Submitted by fantasychick6 (columbus, oh) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 10 of 10 found this helpful.
Give Me A Break! I think a "FEW" of you are missing the concept of what's taking place with this album. This is the celebration of 25 years of one of the greatest success album ever made; introduced to a new generation far more different than our, adding a twist of flavor allowing artist such as Akon, Will.i.am, and others to reach a generation such as the one we're in now is smarter than you think. It hit our generation hard and strong and I believe it could do the same with this generation. To me noting's different about this album accept the added artist who I believe was honored to even be on an album such as this one. Why wasn't this done earlier?? This is the best thing the King Of Pop could have done. He is bringing his album back with people the younger generation like. Being part of the younger generation myself, I love this CD. Listen to the mix Kanye put on "Billie Jean". The beat he lays under an already hit song is sweet. But people overlook that fact. It was all in good marketing skills to get the popular artists of today to remix the songs because people will get the CD just to see how they sound with a new twist on them. GREAT CD!!!!!STRAIGHT UP!!!!!!! Submitted by bellison1124 (Southfield, MI) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 8 of 8 found this helpful.
A Masterpiece For The Younger Generation I must Admit i haven't heard the original thriller untill recently but since the release of the 25th all i can say is WOW! i'm 23 and this is a Masterpiece!! Unfortunately it's not going on billboard :( i think this is going to push heavy units, The 2008 tracks arent as good as the originals but are fire. great, try and ink more money out of mindless fans "Thriller" is a classic album, a great album, albiet a short album at only 9 original tracks. in 2002 a remastered edition with bonus tracks was released which tops this mess of a reissue. I would much rather have the remaining studio outtakes from the Thriller sessions than horrid mash-ups with no talent wastes like Fergie, kanye west and Akon
shame on the label for pulling this crap every few years year!! Submitted by Ryan (VA Beach, VA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 13 found this helpful.

$5.49 OFF THE WALL remaster contains previously unreleased demos and commentary by producer Quincy Jones and songwriter Rod Temperton.

As the lead singer of the Jackson 5, Michael Jackson had already been labeled a legend at a young age; but OFF THE WALL introduced the world to the adult Michael Jackson, and proved that he was still very much worthy of that label. It was the real beginning for Michael as a solo artist, and opened the doors for his next album THRILLER, which would become the greatest selling album of all time and help foist upon a Jackson a new title: King Of Pop.
Under the supervision of Quincy Jones, OFF THE WALL illustrated some of Jackson's most soulful material. The title-track is among the album's smoothest, and introduces his silky feel for the dance-floor. The lively "Working Day And ...

After a lengthy gap of nearly five years, Jackson had to pull something out of the bag. BAD was, after all, a difficult act to follow, and the press were trying to prove he was bonkers. This was a pretty decent attempt and fell in with the hard dance beat of the early 90s. "Heal The World" was much like the old melodic Jackson, and it became a major hit. "Black Or White" was the best of the rest, a well-constructed song in which he attempted to repeat "Ebony And Ivory" in the context of 90s dance music.
Despite the success of Bad, it was hard not to view it as a bit of a letdown, since it presented a cleaner, colder, calculated version of Thriller -- something that delivered what it should on the surface, but wound up offering ...

Jackson's domination of the world record market continued following Thriller, although by comparison it was an almighty flop with only 12 million sales. As Pink Floyd and Dire Straits have proved, one album can go completely sales haywire without necessarily being any better. The title track and the gorgeous "Man In The Mirror" were substantial hits, but quality material ...
