| | Very Best Of Das Efx CD Das EFX Discography of CDs
Rhino/Elektra Traditions' 2001 release The Very Best of Das EFX is an excellent summary of the duo's seminal recordings for Elektra. When they came crashing out in 1992 with Dead Serious, the group was a bold change, thanks to their revolutionary quick-fire, stuttering delivery. The record was hailed as a mini-masterpiece, but like a lot of rap crews, what was praised upon the debut became ignored by the third, often because the once-fresh style now seemed stale, even if it was their signature sound. And, while the quality of their recordings did dip somewhat after the first album, they still turned out fine recordings, as this collection proves. True, it does tilt toward the debut, with no less than seven selections from Dead Serious, but it also contains three cuts from Straight Up Sewaside and four from 1995's Hold It Down, ending with two tracks from their final Elektra album, 1998's Generation EFX. This winds up as an excellent summary, providing a huge portion of their greatest album, with cuts from the other albums that prove they hadn't lost their talents after the debut. And while Dead Serious remains a landmark, this may be the best choice for anybody indeed wanting to hear The Very Best of Das EFX. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Spin (8/01, p.131) - "...Friggidy-freakin' a flow as unique as Lester Bowie's, stepping to Randy Travis, giving Sinead O'Connor a crew cut, and biting Park's Sausage commercials, they still sound totally now. A nice flashback to the days before the dim and the grim..." Very Best Of Das Efx Music Very Best Of Das Efx Music Very Best Of Das Efx Review

$5.69 Hex-O was born in Mobile, Alabama and is currently a resident of Atlanta, Georgia. Having tattoos everywhere and dreadlocks; he looks more like a member of a punk rock band than a rapper. He can bee seen all over Atlanta performing his unique brand of music which incorporates many genres of music, including rock & roll, hip-hop, punk, and many others. At the age of 13, while running the streets of Mobile on his skateboard, Hex-O got into rapping and producing his own beats. Music became like a drug to him and he has been a junkie for it ever since, even teaching himself to play guitar by ear. Hex-O and his boys started their own movement and called themselves JUNKIE STYLEZ. His music truly is one of a kind and has won him several competitions in Alabama and Atlanta. He also has sold thousands of copies of his first two albums Hextacy and This Game Ain’t Easy out the trunk of his car. In his late twenties, pressure from his family and friends to quit his music and get his life together caused him to leave Alabama and move to Atlanta to follow his dream. Now in Atlanta, Hex-O set up a studio ...

$9.29 Apostle J, was born in Flint, Michigan, August 25th 1984. His father and mother raised him in a strict Christian home, and discipline. At the age of 8 year\'s old, having had a father, that was a pastor, he desired to become a minister of the gospel. Following after his father, preaching to his family, sister, and cousins, his heart was set upon ministry. By 1996, his parents began to have marital problems, which greatly affected his life, and molded and shaped his character, by the age of 12. Becoming more isolated from family and friends, he indulged in music, discovering his love for Jazz, and Blues. He used music, as a release, a way to deal with the depression, of growing up in that situation. By 1999, at the age of 14, he gave his life to Christ, and never been the same since. Digging into the Word of God, studying late night hours into the Scripture, fellowshipping with older saints in the Lord.. doing whatever he could, to be all that God wanted him to be. From age 14 to 18...Apostle J explains in his own words, his transformation, to what he is today...In that 4 year time period, alot went on during that time. My mother wasn\'t around as much, and when she was, she was usually in a bad mood. My parents seperating took a toll on myself, and my siblings..but God uses sufferings and hard times to build character. By the time I turned 17, going toward 18, I\'ve began to become bitter, my father remarried, and it just seemed like, my life was stagnated. I was 18, at home, babysitting my sister and brother for the most part, no job, no money for myself. By this time, God placed in my heart, a strong desire to rap..and I didn\'t know how to put two words together. I had not cared for rap music, up until I heard some of Eminem\'s music, and just the fact that he was able to draw such a large following, through his raw form of expression, I truly felt like Christian ...
