Soundwaves album
$18.49 Stéphane Pompougnac's third installment of the his Costes series of mix sessions is strong in track selection and gradually makes a smooth transition into seamless mixes. At first, Costes, Vol. 3 starts off with a chunky mix of songs, and leaves one dreading that the rest of the album will be the same. Gradually Pompougnac shakes off the style and moves on to smoother mixes of foreign language and house-based tunes. With its quirky track selection, the album does nicely as an upbeat lounge compilation or a soothing downtempo house mix. ~ Diana Potts
French DJ/Artist St‚phane Pompougnac's third installment in this popular series featuring the best tracks heard at France's premiere club, bar and cafe. The Hotel Costes series serves as a ''tastemaker'' (read: trendsetting) for the rest of the world. His penchant for choosing the very ...
| | Ultimate Dance Party 1997 CD (1996)
Soundwaves CD music
$7.59 The groove goes on and on with this collection of some of 1997's most popular club hits. From the obligatory "Macarena" to Ace of Bases's "Beautiful Life," most of the big hits are here. For those who like straight club mixes, there are a few nice ones here: Reel 2 Reel's "I Like To Move It" gets a nice treatment, as does Annie Lenox's "No More I Love You's" which gets a good going-over courtesy of DJ Junior Vasquez.
The jams run consecutively, with no space between tracks, so you can put this disc on at a party and not worry about those annoying fade-outs, or vibe-killing spaces between tunes. Other highlights here include Amber's "This is Your Night," and the original club ...

| | Saint Germain Cafe: The Finest Electro-Jazz Compilation CD (Import) France
Soundwaves CD music
$25.45 Though branding types of music is sometimes a necessary evil, the sterile electro-jazz certainly isn't the best term for this set of earthy, slightly clubbed-up productions/performances, the combined efforts of several top European independents (Compost, F Communications, Irma, Studio !K7). The sounds and styles on display here have strong links to West London's broken-beat collective, the Parisian/American jazz-house community (St. Germain, Kevin Yost, Joe Claussell), and Munich's earthy breakbeat maestros (Jazzanova, ...

$24.59 | | Red Hot Chili Peppers Uplift Mofo Party Plan CD (1987) Bonus Tracks; Limited Edition; Remastered
Soundwaves album
$10.95 All tracks have been digitally remastered using 24 Bit Technology.
1987's THE UPLIFT MOFO PARTY PLAN was the album in which the Red Hot Chili Peppers' sound came together. Producer Michael Beinhorn (who would later go on to produce such other alt-rock notables as Soundgarden and Hole) helped the Peppers incorporate more of a hard-rock approach to their already rich blend of funk and punk, with often explosive results. The songwriting is more focused this time around, while the playing is consistently energetic.
Though the album is strong on the whole, selected highlights include "Fight Like a Brave," "Funky Crime," "Me and My Friends," "Backwoods," "Behind the Sun," "No Chump Love Sucker," and the X-rated "Special Secret Song Inside." This would be the best (and sadly, final) album to feature the Kiedis/Flea/Slovak/Irons ...
| | Ceu Vagarosa CD (2009)
Soundwaves CD music
$19.19 Ceu's second album, VAGAROSA, arriving four years after her debut, finds her sticking to the style that first brought her to the attention of the world music and hipster-lounge communities. She's still mixing the relaxed grooves of her native Brazil with those of downtempo/trip-hop acts like Thievery Corporation; still throwing in surprisingly capable reggae grooves ("Cangote," the first full song on this CD, boasts a deep dub bassline and some extremely haunting organ); and still multitracking her vocals into a conversation. It's a lilting yet heady blend that she pulls off with an utter confidence that's fascinating in such a young artist.
Ceu's songs flirt with a Tom Waits-like clatter sometimes, but always resolve themselves into drifting bliss. For insatance, her psychedelic take on Jorge Ben's "Rosa Menina Rosa," the only song on ...
