13th Star was originally released as a limited edition of 10,000 copies with a bonus DVD on September 6, 2007, only available through Fish's website or at one of his concerts to promote the album. It was released to retail on February 12, 2008. The lineup for the album is Frank Usher on guitars, Steve Vantsis on bass, Foss Paterson on keyboards, Gavin Griffiths on drums, Dave Haswell on percussion, Lorna Bannon on backing vocals, and new bandmember Chris Johnson on guitars. For the first time, Calum Malcolm (Prefab Sprout, Blue Nile) was brought in to produce the album, and he introduced a more disciplined approach into the recording process. There was also a change with regard to writing the album, as bassist Vantsis was heavily involved for the first time after ten years playing in the band, and his writing brought a slightly different approach. Some of the lyrics of the songs were also influenced by the fact that Fish split with his fiancée, Heather Findlay of the band Mostly Autumn, shortly after the recording of the album had started. 13th Star was written as a concept album, although this applies mainly to the lyrics presenting a narrative throughout -- the concept was of someone on a journey of self- discovery, with the 13th Star serving as the guiding light or the destination. From the first chords of the opening track, "Circle Line," the influence of Vantsis can be heard as the album has a more rocky feel, more akin to Sunsets on Empire than more recent albums. After this fast start, the album slows down on the third track, "Miles de Besos," which is Spanish for "Thousands of Kisses." The fifth track, "Arc of the Curve," was the first single released from the album, but as expected, it did nothing in the charts. After this track, the album picks up the pace again with one of the disc's highlights, "Manchmal." This is a German word for "Sometimes," and the song tells the tale of the turtle and the scorpion. The remainder of the album continues in the same vein, and overall this is Fish's best offering in a long while -- some say his best ever, although this is open to debate. ~ Sharon Mawer
Fish first came to the notice of music fans as the front man for neo progressive rock band Marillion. 13th Star is the latest studio offering from Fish and was written and recorded during what was one of the biggest personal upheavals in his life. The album is a dark and reflective album although there is an optimism running throughout. Fish recorded a lengthy interview featuring the album for download as a podcast. The artwork for the album was designed by long time collaborator Mark Wilkinson.
Fish: Fish (vocals).
Personnel: Frank Usher (electric guitar, organ, keyboards); Steve Vantsis (electric guitar, upright bass, bass guitar, drum programming, loops, sampler); Foster Paterson (piano, organ, keyboards).
Record Collector (magazine) (p.88) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Album opener 'Circle Line' is replete with world beats, sharp guitar lines and typically surging vocals..." 13th Star Music | List Price | $18.95 (You save $3.56) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, Rock CDs, Art Rock | | Label | Chocolate Frog | | Orig Year | 2008 | | All Time Sales Rank | 24816 | | CD Universe Part number | 7582368 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Mar 18, 2008 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Engineer | Steve Vantsis; Calum Malcolm | | Personnel | Fish - vocals Foster Paterson - piano, organ, keyboards Frank Usher - electric guitar, organ, keyboards Steve Vantsis - electric guitar, upright bass, bass guitar, drum programming, loops, sampler

| | David Gilmour About Face CD (1984) Remastered
13th Star CD music
$7.59 Combining layered vocals with a heavily looped guitar sound, "Until We Sleep" begins ABOUT FACE with an almost Byrds-like quality, while the gentleness of the acoustic opening to the ballad "Murder" disguises its homicidal subject matter. Both "Love On the Air," and "All Lovers are Deranged," are distinguished by lyrics written by Pete Townshend, and "Blue Light" is an attempt at funk with a Floydian flavor. Gilmour's strength at ballad writing is evidenced in "Out of the Blue," while the obligatory instrumental is "Let's Get Metaphysical." The album closer is, appropriately enough, the song "Near the End." All in all an essential album in any Floyd fan's collection.
This follow-up to David Gilmour's late '70s debut ...

| | Marillion Happiness Is The Road: Essence Vol. 1 CD (2008)
13th Star album
$10.05 The band that ushered in the British neo-prog wave in the 1980s, Marillion has proved itself to be a true survivor. Still going strong in 2008, the band is as ambitious as ever, releasing their latest batch of tunes, HAPPINESS IS THE ROAD, as two separate volumes. Where its sister album, THE HARD SHOULDER, is a more visceral, rocking effort, the first volume, ESSENCE, is a lush, atmospheric affair, somewhat reminiscent of latter-day (post-Roger Waters) Pink Floyd, but with a more contemporary flavor that neatly dodges retro cliches.
Marillion's 15th album is actually double album split into two separate CDs. 'Happiness is the Road Volume One' is subtitled 'Essence' and contains all new material from one of the most loved and passionate bands in the world. A new creative streak of writing and producing music was captured in the studio and fans will not be disappointed. Pushing the boundaries of what a 'typical' Marillion CD is supposed to sound like ...

| | Richard Shulman 11:11: Piano Meditations For Awakening CD (2008)
13th Star album
$9.49 Sprawling and melodic piano lines meet lush synthesizer orchestrations in Peter Shulman's calming music. Over 50 minutes of pretty, heart-beat-paced pieces provide ample time for unwinding in meditation, or practicing a full set of yoga asanas. While Shulman has included aspects of all his various influences on his previous recordings, this 2008 release favors bright, piano-pop sounds with a neo-classical veneer.
11:11 Piano Meditations for AwakeningRichard ShulmanI first heard about 11:11 in 1991 through Erik Berglund, who introduced me to Solara (http://www.nvisible.com) who organized and facilitated the 11:11 planetary activation in 1992. I have often found myself looking at a digital clock and seeing 11:11, and I’ve enjoyed resonating with the inner light and love within all whenever I see this symbol. Several synchronicities have led me to record this set of musical meditations for experiencing the 11:11 vibrations on a deeper level. On 11/11, 2006 I performed at an 11:11 event in Asheville, NC and then the following June I met Zera Starchild who invited me to create music for an 11:11 gift basket she is marketing. So during the second half of 2007 at 11:11 am and pm Eastern Standard Time, I would sit at the piano, ask for music for the highest good with regard to 11:11, and then play and record the music I heard in response. Then I was invited to play for a healing session at the United Research Light Center, in Black Mountain, NC, where I often perform, on 11/11/2007. The music just happened to be professionally recorded that day, and I was gifted with a CD of what I had played. After hearing that music and starting the process of producing the finished CD, I went to a theatre performance. The box office attendent gave me seat 11 in the 11th row! That was way - more confirmation than I expected!I hope you will enjoy these piano meditations and that they help you to deepen in your awareness of the oneness behind all life and in your sacred journey.Much Love, RichardSpecial Thanks to Solara, for her work with the 11:11 activation, to Gillian MacBeth-Louthan who organized the 11/11/06 Quantum Awakening event, to the UR Light Center, and to Zera Starchild of Doorway Publications and Anara Brinmere who initially ...

13th Star CD music
$10.15 Talented and young are often a paradoxical combination: Not true in Sean McDougal’s case. The debut album, Weatherall, from young and rising star, Sean McDougal, is a classic blend of rock, folk, and pop music that will satisfy any audiophile.
