Brahms: Sonatas, Op 120 No 1 & 2 / Manasse, Nakamatsu
$13.79 The multi-talented writer/cartoonist/singer Shel Silverstein's most durable legacy has been his work as a children's book author, but between 1959 and 1980, he released a variety of albums, dabbling in multiple genres: jazz, folk, country, rock, and penning several memorable tunes. This 1959 debut features jazz quartet the Red Onions (who frequently played in humorist Jean Shepard's variety nightclub act) backing Silverstein's beat-esque poetry. The poetry, while not a joke, is not overly serious, either, in the spirit of Silverstein's other endeavors. This hard-to-find album was released in 2008 by Water Music.
Shel Silverstein is now best known for his children's books, he first gained notoriety as a cartoonist for Playboy in the late '50s and soon after that was cutting records that spanned the pop spectrum from jazz to folk to county, in addition to penning
