Formed in 2005, the band blends various genres such as Celtic, New Age, African, Folk, and Rock into an energizing and uplifting sound. In July 2007, The Forefathers were voted \"Best Acoustic Act\" in the Central Florida area by The Orlando Weekly. Tracks from the CD Manataka, including \"Mountain Rose\", \"Awake\", \"Manataka\", and \"Silhouettes\", have appeared on National Public Radio\'s popular \"Echoes\" program hosted by John Diliberto in 2007 and 2008. \"Mountain Rose\" has also been selected for the 2008 CD compilation \"Tribute to Stuart Adamson\" (late singer/guitarist of Big Country). The Forefathers have performed many well-received live shows. The band has played the Florida Folk Festival, Taste of the Nation at Dolphin Disney Resort, International New Age Trade Show, Orlando Fringe Festival, the Orlando Science Center, various art festivals, clubs, benefit shows, & convention shows. \"Manataka\", the band\'s 2nd CD, is comprised of 12 tracks of The Forefathers unique sound. The story behind the new CD is this: Hot Springs National Park is known to most people as a place of recreation. To Native Americans, this region was, and continues to be, a mystical and sacred ground known as Manataka. For thousands of years, Native peoples would pilgrimage to Manataka at regular intervals to celebrate peace. Even nations at war with each other would put aside their disputes to meet at Manataka. The music on this CD is inspired by the themes of Manataka: peace, healing, respect for our natural world, and a harmonious bond between all peoples of Earth. Velocity Magazine (June 2008) stated: \"Manataka is superb and richly textured. Its global essence is obvious and will stir your soul. Manataka resurrects the vision and the incredible zeal our hearts all hold for peace all over the world.\"The Forefathers released their well-received, self-titled, debut CD in February 2006. That CD consisted of 12 tracks of the band\'s unique blend of World, Celtic, Acoustic, & Rock genres. The songs \"Solstice\" & \"Reverie\" received airplay on radio programs such as Upbeat Radio, Radio Crystal Blue, Acoustic Fuel, & Local Music Cafe.Discography\"The Forefathers\" - debut self-titled CD, released 2006\"Manataka\" - 2nd CD, released 2007\"Comfort & Joy\" - Holiday EP, released 2007 Forefathers Manataka Songs | 1. | Manataka (Place Of Peace) |

$9.59 The delirious "Intro" sets the stage for what's to come: murky synth washes are gently led into the sunshine by the sudden magisterial arrival of the flamenco guitar. The title track is a rousing instrumental that fuses ...
| | High Kings CD (2008) Digipak
Manataka CD music
$14.89 The debut album by the High Kings was issued by the same folks who had a hand in Celtic Woman and Riverdance, and consists of easy listening and buffed-and-polished Irish folk music of appeal to an audience that is comparatively massive for the world music fringe: this album made the lower levels of the Billboard Top 200 album chart. The High Kings is glossy and polite -- targeted perhaps toward listeners who enjoyed the pennywhistle on Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" -- even on tunes that strive to be upbeat and frolicsome. ~ Stewart Mason
The debut album by the High Kings, brought to you by the same folks who had a hand in faux-Celtic abominations like Celtic Woman and Riverdance, brings up an important philosophical question: just exactly what is the demographic for this blend of middlebrow easy listening and ...

| | Fabulous Wailers CD (1959)
Manataka album
$12.59 As any quick perusal of old Top 40 rock & roll station playlists will attest, singles were where the shakin' action was, as rock & roll albums were scarce as hen's teeth back in those pre-Beatle days. But when the record companies decided to issue one, it was usually an artifact of high rockin' value and some major influence. Naysayers to the contrary, this debut album by the Northwest's first great rock & roll combo is just such an artifact. The Wailers dispensed crude, greasy, largely instrumental rock & roll music for those who came to shake it up and shake it down, and it's all on fine, rhythmic, open display here. This album is amazing in its own simplistic, nuthin'-special way, its crudity almost palpable. There's only one vocal aboard, Kent Morrill's "Dirty Robber," later covered and torched by the Sonics. Everything else is built on the riff-sturdy bones of their biggest hit, "Tall Cool One." With two guitars, piano, sax, and drums -- no bass player anywhere on here, another crudeness indicator of the times and locale it was recorded in -- all blasting away ...
| | Hanggai Introducing CD (2008)
Manataka CD music
$9.75 It's not what you'd expect -- a group from Beijing, mostly comprised of Mongolians, playing horsehair spike fiddles and two-string lutes, with Central Asian overtone signing -- and sounding at times remarkably like the Velvet Underground. But that's exactly what this six-piece manages, thanks in part to the droning, monotone quality of many of the songs and the touches of programming and guitar from Western producers Robin Haller and Matteo Scumaci. What they bring is ...

Manataka music CDs
$16.45 Sasha Mercedes and Marky Baby met at a campfire jam years ago. Sasha recalls that Marky had brought a bassjo which he had made for his instrument of the evening. She was immediately impressed with his musicianship. It was a few years later, in 2005, that the two began playing together in a surf rock band. The band wanted a female drummer and though Sasha didn't exactly claim to fit that bill, she began drumming for the group. Marky was already playing sax for the band and it was a great thing while it lasted. Shortly after the two had started work with the "Ditch Surfers" they began to play as a duet. Marky on both the bass or guitar "and" drums! Mercedes continues to belt out the vocals and keep a strong and steady rhythm guitar going while Marky adds the little nuances that make the album "6-Track Sessions" what it is. The reason for it's title is the way the album manifested its self. The two had met a record producer during that same summer of 2005 and he moved his studio from the twin cities to Bayfield so that the two could continue to work and play in the area while cutting albums at the same time. A falling out between Mercedes and the producer led her to the decision to produce and engineer the album from the comfort of her own home. Wanting a more organic ...

Manataka songs
$25.35 DRUMIX!Aly N’Diaye Rose and Lucas van Merwijk played together for the first time in the summer of 1999 in a small village in Spain called Altea. They were invited there by the spanish percussionist José Vicente to participate in a serie of concerts and recordings with his percussion group ‘Nits de la Mediteránnia’.Back in the Netherlands they stayed in touch and decided to form ‘Drumix!'. The concept of this duo is to mix three genres of musical drumming: African, Latin and Western drumming. They soon saw that the amount of combinations of instruments and sounds is endless and they have now brought this together in a brand new show.ALY N'DIAYE ROSEAly N’Diaye Rose was born in 1959 in Dakar, Senegal. His mother, Fatou Mbengue, danced with the Ballet Nationale du Senegal in her younger years, and his father, Doudou N'Diaye Rose, remains a gifted percussionist and world-famous master drummer to this day.Like most children in Senegal, Aly began playing percussion at age four. He grew up in a Griot family, in which legends have been passed down through the ages orally, in the form of traditional songs accompanied by percussion instruments. Doudou recognized his young son’s talent very early, while drumming at social gatherings like births, weddings, rites of passage, harvests and funerals – each occasion being marked by a different rhythm. At age 12, Aly N’Diaye Rose joined his father’s orchestra and toured with them throughout Africa, Europe, America and Japan, where he had the opportunity to appear at festivals alongside legends like Miles Davis, the Rolling Stones, James Brown, Stevie Wonder and Peter Gabriel. In 1980, he returned to Dakar and served as a music teacher for a number of years. He then traveled to France to teach in Toulon and Paris. In 1987, Aly N’Diaye Rose performed with Doudou’s orchestra at the prestigious North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands. There, he met Wolly Meriën from the Roots Dance and Theater School, who subsequently invited Aly to collaborate with him on a variety of projects. At the same time, he was asked to give percussion lessons at the Dutch Royal Conservatory in The Hague, which he continues to enjoy to this day. In 1989, Aly N’Diaye Rose relocated to The Hague and was named artistic leader of the Anumadutchi percussion group. This Dutch percussion group consists of professional musicians and former students of Aly N’Diaye Rose, and performs both in the Netherlands and abroad. In 1995 and 1996, Aly N’Diaye Rose composed and performed various pieces for the Rotterdam-based Scapino Ballet’s modern dance production of Romeo and Juliet. This popular dance production surprised and delighted Dutch audiences for two years. In collaboration with top European drummer Lucas van Merwijk, Aly N’Diaye Rose formed Drumix!, and the two recorded an album together in 1999. Its release was followed by a series of theater concerts by the duo, as well as a performance ...
