$21.29 Recorded between 1971-1991. Includes liner notes by David Fricke.
Spread across two enticing discs, the GREAT DAYS anthology makes it plain that living during a time when John Prine is releasing music makes for some great days indeed. The fact that Prine had to wait 20 years to receive a Grammy should not for a second obscure the fact that he has been making re

| | Jamie Brockett Remember The Wind And The Rain CD (1969)
Passenger CD music
$9.99 Folksinger and composer Jaime Brockett's debut album, Remember the Wind and the Rain (1971), easily demonstrates why readers of Broadside magazine heralded him as Boston, MA's top male performer circa 1968. Brockett's emotive side is revealed on the title track, "Blue Chip," and the hauntingly beautiful "Nowadays," juxtaposed against the anti-authoritarian hippie anthems "Talkin' Green Beret New Super Yellow Hydraulic Banana Teeny Bopper Blues" and the nearly quarter-hour "Legend of the U.S.S Titanic." Even though the latter sounds like an amphetamine-fueled rave, it includes a coded message and some sage advice: if one has the need to partake of recreational combustibles, it should be done "in the privacy of your own home." This is opposed to imbibing on the bow of a ship -- as the narrative blames a pot-tokin' first mate as the responsible party for the vessel's fate. "St. Botolph St. Grey Morning Dulcimer Thing" -- bearing the name of St. Botolph, Boston's patron saint -- is another interesting entry, as it is Brockett's ...
| | Mississippi John Lewis Every Inch CD (2007)
Passenger music CDs
$12.65 Every Inch: First let me thank you for your interest in this recording. It is a collection of tunes that I've written about myself and the hardships I've encountered. Songs about hard choices, hard issues and times. If there are any appologies to be made it would certainly be to the fact that this was a low budget project and therefore I view it as a concept cd. Better versions are sure to follow. MJL: An undisciplined man to say the least! lol! Born of the Pearl River swamps in southern Mississippi in 1958, I desired adventure at a young age. And got it! But not without a price. I began running the streets of New Orleans as a teenager, and learning quickly the laws of the bayou. I worked ships, boats and Gulf of Mexico drilling for a number of years. The French Quarter became home on my days off and often you would find me playing my guitar under the soft lights of Jackson Square. Or along the Moon Walk on a festive day. I had also worked briefly as a tree gatherer and my interests in these chloriphic perpendiculars became firmly set! I ventured west where I began hanging steel throughout So. Cal. and Tuscon. I cleaned Palm Trees on the side and played in coffee houses whenever I had a guitar. Writing! I was always writing. But I wanted trees and lots of them. So it was decided that the Seattle area would be best for all of my ...

| | Ricardo Oh What A God CD (2008)
Passenger CD music
$15.15 Atlanta based worship leader and Christian recording artist, Ricardo, is known nationally and internationally as a singer and notable song writer, with such songs as, I Call Your Name, topping the inspirational radio charts at #3. Ricardo recently joined Pastor Jentezen Franklin at Free Chapel Worship Center both in Gainesville, Georgia, and Irvine, California, as the Minister of Music, and has partnered with a broad range of internationally acclaimed worship leaders such as Israel and New Breed, Darlene Zschech, Martha Munizzi, Mac Powell, Salvador, New Song, Jaci Velasquez, and many more. Many artists possess multiple influences and skills, but not every singer/songwriter/musician harnesses them at the depth and intensity Ricardo demonstrates on Moving Forward, released through Integrity Music in 2007. Roots like these are planted early and tended lovingly-and that's exactly how it was with Ricardo. The Beginning YearsThe youngest of Vicente and Fransica Sanchez's six children, Ricardo grew up speaking Spanish at home and English at school. He also grew up loving traditional Mexican mariachi music, as well as American rock, pop, and R&B. Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Richard Marx, the Beatles-you name it. Ricardo's life was deeply multicultural long before he even knew the meaning of the word. While music clearly seemed Ricardo's destiny from the time he began singing in his family band as a child at the age of five, something else even more significant was beginning to call and captivate him-and not something that typically attracts youth. A turning point in Ricardo’s spiritual life came in his freshman year of high school when a friend invited him to a Young Life meeting. Active in Young Life throughout his high school years, Ricardo grew in his passion for music as well as his knowledge of the Bible, and he wanted to draw nearer to the Lord. But despite his faithful lifelong church attendance, he still carried beliefs about Christ that stood in the way of a closer relationship with Him "I thought I knew everything about Christianity already, until I went to a Young Life weekend retreat in my junior year," Ricardo says. "They walked us through all the Gospels the first night. Then the next night they talked about sin and Christ dying to pay for our sins. I had never made the correlation, and when suddenly I did, it literally rocked my world. I went outside and found somewhere I could be alone, and just broke down weeping." "It became clear to me that I hadn't turned everything over to Christ, and that I had to have Him in my heart," Ricardo says. Now, with his faith in overdrive, Ricardo began to clearly see the connection between ...
| | Jemina Pearl Break It Up CD (2009)
Passenger music CDs
$9.99 The title of Jemina Pearl's first post-Be Your Own Pet album, Break It Up, could apply to a fight or a band -- and in Pearl's case, it's a little of both. Be Your Own Pet's music and attitude (especially on-stage) were so riotous that it was clear they wouldn't last long. The band folded not too long after the release of its second album, Get Awkward, which had one of its best songs, "Becky," cut from the official release because its nasty update of girl group pop was deemed too violent by the record label. It's no coincidence that some of that song's mix of sugar and spite resurfaces on Break It Up, since Pearl wrote the track with Be Your Own Pet drummer John Eatherly and he remains her chief collaborator here. The pair worked with producer John Agnello on these songs, and even though they're far more polished and sedate than Be Your Own Pet were at their tamest, Pearl and Eatherly still specialize in twisted pop with a mean streak. This time, however, they draw from influences like Blondie and the Go-Go's and collaborators who include David Sitek, Redd Kross' Steve McDonald, that dog.'s Anna Waronker, and Thurston Moore (who lends some of his effortless cool to "D Is for Danger"'s backing vocals). It's Iggy Pop, however, who contributes Break It Up's standout "I Hate People," a love song for misanthropes that updates punk's penchant for subverting '50s and early-'60s pop and rock. Pearl isn't a particularly nuanced singer, but she still gets to explore sounds and moods that wouldn't have been possible with Be Your Own Pet's brand of chaos. Though there are a few songs ("Looking for Trouble," "So Sick") that don't stray far from Eatherly and Pearl's previous band, she discovers new shades of being a bad -- or more accurately, independent ...
