| | Vince Chapman Self Portrait CD Vince Chapman Discography of CDs
The MusicianWith a style resting comfortably somewhere between soul and contemporary jazz, with a sprinkle of the Blues, Vince Chapman has been blessed to share his talents throughout the US and the Caribbean. His rich baritone voice has been heard from DC's Takoma Station to the Reichhold Center for the Arts in the US Virgin Islands. Like many of his musical idols, Vincent, or Vince as he prefers, began singing in the church. While he continues to connect with his gospel roots every sunday, Vince has added a powerful blend of Jazz, Soul and R&B to round out his musical week. One musician described Vince's sound as equal parts R&B and R&R with a splash of Jazz! His love for performing is balanced by his gift for song writing and production. Through his company, Chapmuzic Productions and Chapmuzic Studio's, Vince has been helping independent musicians create great music for over 15 years. The Music. For this smooth baritone from the Midwest, the third time is a charm. And this time, it's Personal! Self Portrait is the third solo project from the Chicago born singer/songwriter that now makes his home in the Washington DC area. With a vocal style often compared to R&B/Jazz crooner Will Downing and the Legendary Luther Vandross, you will no doubt enjoy the musical tapestry Vince paints with his voice and words on Self Portrait. Can't miss tracks on Vince's latest offering include the mid tempo groove 'Chapter III', the mellow ode to communications titled 'Key Conversations' and the funky anthem about a fathers love for his daughters, 'Daddy's Girls. ' There are two very special songs on this project. On 'Why Did the Music Have to End?', and 'Remind Me of You', Vince sings about two important influences in his life!one musical and the other personal. The first is about the loss of one of music's greatest voices, Luther Vandross. The track, reminiscent of Luther's style, features Gospel/Jazz Saxophonist Rob Maletick. The lyrics of the hook summarize the songs sentiment,'Why did the music have to end and why did you have to go? You were just like my closest friend and I wanted you to know, that your music still covers my life like the fresh drops of morning dew. I still miss ya, though your song lingers on, I still have to ask why?! Remind me of You is about a loss of another type, the loss of ones memory. Specifically, the loss of Vince's mothers memory to the disease Alzheimers. The Chapman Family has been battling the ravages of the disease over the past 10 years. Vince hopes that he can use this very personal song to bring greater awareness about the effects of Alzheimers on the sufferers of the disease and their families and encourage continued support and funding for research for a cure. Self Portrait is an open window to the life and thoughts of Mrs. Chapman's baby boy, but it is also a mirror that will cause you to reflect on the images of your life. Get your copy today! Self Portrait album
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and producer Kooper ...

Self Portrait album
$15.09 On FIRST LOVE, contemporary jazz saxophonist and composer Everette Harp moves deeper into the space he addressed on 2007's excellent MY INSPIRATION. Produced by George Duke, the meld of acoustic and electric instruments here is perfectly balanced. Melodic and harmonic structures are much more complex and don't always fit the C-jazz cookie-cutter mold. Check his original "The Council of Nicea," one of the most satisfying things here. Harp's tenor is accompanied by James Genus' acoustic bass, and some spot-on breaks by Terri Lyne Carrington, a beautiful bluesy, hard bop trumpet solo by Michael ...

$16.45 I picked up my first guitar at the age of 11, a Hondo, acoustic Fender knockoff that I received as a Christmas present from my parents. I found its quality or name unimportant because when all was told, it was mine! I carried it everywhere I could and it became a part of me. I kept on writing songs, mostly for my younger sisters who clapped for me no matter how bad it was. A few years later I discovered my first studio, the back hall staircase in my old high school. Man, what a sound that made and without question I knew I was hooked from that point on. In the 1980's and 90's I teamed up with my younger brother ...
