Nature Notes For Little Folks album
$14.19 The fourth of four CD reissues taken from Art Pepper's three nights at the Village Vanguard in July 1977, as with the other releases, adds one selection ("Scrapple from the Apple") to the music of the original LP; all of the performances on this and the other sets have since been made available as part of a massive nine-CD box set. The great altoist was clearly excited to be playing at the famous New York club, and his rhythm section -- pianist George Cables, bassist George Mraz and drummer Elvin Jones -- consistently stimulates ...

| | Colors Of Latin Jazz: Sabroso! CD (2000)
Nature Notes For Little Folks music CDs
$8.09 There may never be a setting as beautiful or a locale as ideal as a breathtaking ocean view complete with the sounds of beautiful Latin jazz floating over the ocean breeze. The fifth CD in the Colors of Latin Jazz series sets the scene for a collection of contemporary, smooth jazz peppered with Latin rhythms and percussion. This CD is a musical hybrid that's at once cool and smooth, yet hot and spicy! Up first is Jeff Linsky's beauty "Up Late," originally issued on Up Late by Concord Picante. His dynamic colors beckon the listener to "Come With Me," the second track sung and scatted by the inimitable Tania Maria on a cool samba just right for a hot day or night. Another smooth scorcher, "San Sabastian" by Ed Calle with special guest Arturo Sandoval is some of Sandoval's most melodic sax work bordered on all sides by the beauty of Spanish guitar, brass, and strings. The romance dance continues for six minutes and invites you to the captivating setting originally issued on Sunset Harbor. Manfredo Fest pays tribute to the smooth sounds of Brazil on "Agua De Beber" as Mongo Santamaria plays the all-time smooth tune "Smooth Operator" with a calypso beat surrounded by a bountiful bag of horns, bongos, and exciting percussion leading the flow of smooth jazz through your life. The ...
| | Lily White Big Blue Line CD (1999)
Nature Notes For Little Folks songs
$13.35 Big Blue Line is the third album for Lily White and her group. Working together for more than six years gives her group a respectable pedigree and they are finally getting the attention they have worked hard to attract. While the instrumentation is pretty standard for a small group, the sounds they manage to get out of the tools of the trade entice the listener much like the Sirens tempted Ulysses and his crew in the classic The Odyssey. To their credit, White and her confreres don't try to concoct "different" sounds just to show how clever they are. Everything manages to come together to provide more than an hour's worth of absorbing creative improvisation. The ensemble creates dissonance without distortion and color without cacophony. All of the 12 tunes come from the pens of members of the group, with leader Lily White responsible for most of them. For those who think it is important, the time signatures for the tunes vary throughout. For example, "Hide and Seek" starts off like a march seguing into a rock-based ballad spearheaded by David Phelps' authoritative and commanding guitar. "Cleveland" and "Open" are the closest the group comes to pure "free" jazz, at least as that term used to describe the harmonic ...

Nature Notes For Little Folks CD music
$18.15 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
Recorded in 1993 but only released in 2005, two years after his death, it's a mystery why this sat in the vault for so long. Here the Nigerian master drummer collaborates with Sikiru Adepoju and Muruga, and the results are as good as anything he released in his prime during the 1960s. He can conjure up a groove out of nothing, making it flow and ebb, while the drummers talk to each other with their instruments. It's not quite all percussion, however, as the one-string ektar fiddle, synth, chants, and even (surprisingly) hammered dulcimer enter the mix. Each of ...
