Oorutaichi began recording and performing in 1999, inspired by The Residents, The Doors, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Aphex Twin and Dancehall Reggae. Initial recordings were multi-tracked improvisations using "real" instruments, toys and voice, evolving to composed songs using midi triggerd instrumentation. His first album, "Yori Yoyo", was released in 2003 to acclaim by Yamatsuka Eye (Boredoms), Freeform (Skam Records), Juana Morina (Domino Records), Daniel Wang and others, and received airplay on BBC Radio. He has been profiled in a number of Japanese magazines, and is very active in Japanese underground music, including improvisation with many musicians and three appearances at Kazuhisa Uchihashi “Beyond Innocence” festival. He has also provided music for contemporary dance. In 2005 the U.K label “Bearfunk” release his EP ”Misen Gymnastics”, featuring an Idjut Boys remix. In 2007 he completed a U.K tour, part of his continuing efforts to raise his profile abroad.This is the second CD from Oorutaichi, including four songs from his first domestic release and six new songs. Composed, played, sung, and mixed entirely by Oorutaichi, the strong melodies, wide-ranging beats&free style chorus work create an original sound that could almost be traditional music from a fictitious country called "Oorutaichi". Hailing from Canada, Hawksley Workman is a singer-songwriter who crafts 10 songs with a Christmas theme on ALMOST A FULL MOON.
It'd seem odd for an artist as willfully eccentric as Hawksley Workman to be putting out a Christmas album so soon into his career as a solo performer, but he gets off the hook because this is really more a seasonal album than a Christmas album. The typical overtly religious songs found on many Christmas albums are (mostly) gone here, and instead Workman focuses on the other things related to the holidays, like eating, singing, and meeting up with family. Some of them are so tentatively related to the whole holiday experience, in fact, that it's tempting to think of this as the third proper Workman album, but with songs written around the holidays. The opening track, "Claire Fontaine," is one such song, an ode to a paper-making friend's exceptionally fine craft, in which Workman worries that he might not be able to get the paper across the border when he goes home for Christmas. "First Snow of the Year" has a bouncy, childlike quality, completely suited to the song: that youthful longing for that first day of snow, putting on your snow clothes and diving headfirst into a snowbank.
