Cuanto Tardare album
$15.05 With The Fall, Norah Jones completes the transition away from her smooth cabaret beginnings and toward a mellowly arty, modern singer/songwriter. Jones began this shift on 2007's Not Too Late, an album that gently rejected her tendencies for lulling, tasteful crooning, but The Fall is a stronger, more cohesive work, maintaining an elegantly dreamy state that's faithful to the crooner of Come Away with Me while feeling decidedly less classicist. Some of this could be attributed to Jones' choice ...

| | Paul Nash Soul Of Grace CD (2000)
Cuanto Tardare music CDs
$22.79 If New York is really the capitol of jazz, why is it that so many talented American improvisers end up recording for European labels? A case in point is guitarist/arranger Paul Nash, who lives in New York but has done some of his best work for the Italian Soul Note label. It was in 1997 that Nash recorded his release The Soul of Grace, which finds the guitarist emphasizing original material and leading a nine-person band (in some cases, more than nine) that includes, among others, trumpeter Jack Walrath, reedman Bruce Williamson, trombonist David Taylor, and pianist Neal Kirkwood. Although some of Nash's electric guitar solos are rock influenced, The Soul of Grace isn't a fusion CD -- it's an acoustic-oriented post-bop date that underscores Nash's appreciation of such band-leading arrangers as Gil Evans, Charles Mingus, and Oliver Nelson. Nash's pieces are complex and intellectual, yet melodic. The Soul of Grace isn't a gem, but it's a respectable, enjoyable example of a European indie documenting a noteworthy American artist. ~ Alex Henderson
ABOUT THE COMPOSER------------------The music of composer and guitarist Paul Nash reflects a restless commitment to musical experimentation-integrating by turns the sound worlds of jazz, classical, and rock through his own personal synthesis. Nash's musical path began in the late 60's when his Bronx teenage rock band opened for the Blues Project and followed a then unknown Jimi Hendrix at the Cafe Wha? in Greenwich Village. This was followed by years of music study-earning respectively B.M. and M.A. degrees in music composition from the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1972 and Mills College in Oakland (CA) in 1976.San Francisco provided a fruitful outlet for his passion for larger jazz aggregations. In 1977, the ten-piece Paul Nash Ensemble, which featured saxophonist Noel Jewkes, drummer Eddie Marshall and trumpeter Mark Isham, began performances around the Bay Area and in Los Angeles. Later, Nash became instrumental in the creation of the Bay Area Jazz Composers Orchestra (BAJCO), a new type of jazz orchestra that included a string quartet founded in 1987. Upon his return to New York City, Mr. Nash expanded on that same instrumental model by establishing the Manhattan New Music Project in 1990. Nash's interest in classical forms has evolved alongside his work in jazz. Among the music groups that have performed Nash's chamber and orchestral pieces have been the St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble, the Aspen Music Festival, the Chamber Symphony of San Francisco, the San Francisco Symphony, ...
