This recording captures the sound of a very special trio. Both pianist Misha Piatigorsky and drummer Eric Harland are at the beginning of their musical journey. Here together with German bass player Peter Klinke, the three explore Piatigorsky's playful arrangements of American Standards as well as Piatigorsky's original compositions. Misha Piatigorsky, winner of the 2004 BMI Thelonious Monk ComposersCompetition, is one of the most innovative pianists on the music scenetoday. His unique marriage of powerful melodies with intensely drivingrhythms makes his sound a fresh voice that excites the heart and mind. Misha has produced many records both for himself and other musicians featuring his compositions and arrangements. He is the pianist and music director for singing legend Mark Murphy, and can be found performing with him in New York clubs such as Birdland, Iridium, and Dizzy’s Coca-Cola Club, as well as internationally. Misha’s notable releases include the debut CD for Trio Del Sol, with guitarist Freddie Bryant and percussionist Gilad on Twinz Records, where the “piano and guitar create and exchange melodies like an intricate dance” (Bill Milkowski), and AYA, featuring his compositions. Misha’s new trio with bassist Hans Glawischnig and drummer Ari Hoenig is a fusion ofurban grooves with his non-traditional jazz compositions, breaking downthe boundaries between classical melodicism and popular rhythms. Their firstrecord, Uncommon Circumstance, is being released in early 2007 to greataccolades.Born in Moscow, Misha began his musical education at a very young age. After his immigration to the United States in 1981, Misha became an accomplished Jazz pianist, drummer, and composer. He earned his Bachelors Degree under pianist Kenny Barron, and his Masters Degree at Manhattan School of Music, having been awarded a full scholarship.Misha currently resides in New York with his wife and two children, where heis a sought-after producer and performer. He continues composing for films,small ensembles, and vocalists, and can be heard on the movie soundtracks of Chaos Theory, Pretty Persuasion, RX, and Danika. “Gospel That Swings” With Rusty BovaFounder and Internationally Acclaimed Christian Jazz Clarinetist. Rusty Bova’s love for music was highly influenced by his parent’s enjoyment of big band music. But when his parents introduced the recordings of the legendary Benny Goodman, his life would be impacted in a major way.During the Fifth grade, Rusty met with the local band instructor for the new season band round up. The band instructor told Rusty that he would make a great trombone player. Astounded, Rusty said, “No! I want to play the clarinet like Benny Goodman!” From that point forward and no turning back, his Dad purchased a wooden clarinet.In addition to regular clarinet lessons, His Mom would play the old 78-phonograph recording of Benny Goodman’s “My Blue Heaven”. She would sing every note of the song so Rusty could find the notes and play them. After grueling attempts and many honks and squeaks “My Blue Heaven” became Rusty’s first big band song. Later his parents introduced another clarinet great, Pete Fountain and Sax legend, Boots Randolph. Gary Wittner has been delighting audiences of all ages for over 25 years. He has been hired to play guitar, teach music and present music programs on 5 continents world wide. Graduating from the Berklee College of Music in 1981, Gary began performing jazz standards and all-Monk concerts. After 3 years as a freelance guitarist, Gary began a Master's Degree program at Washington State University, where he completed his thesis (a study of Monk's compositional style) in 1986. From Washington, Gary was offered a faculty position at the University of Maine at Augusta.
