| | Eeday Rise Up CD Eeday Discography of CDs
Eeday is known to many as the magnetic front man of the Southern California dance-hall Reggae band, URBAN FIRE. He demonstrates a rare ability to switch from a captivating singing voice to a Jamaican style rap called ‘toasting’. Eeday packs venues throughout Southern California and has opened for Steel Pulse, Burning Spear, Pato Bantan and Eek-A-Mouse. You may have heard his music on KROQ’s Native Wayne Show, KSBR or KCRW. His latest dance track MOVE YOUR FEET, was featured in the 2007 Disney Movie JUMP IN! (starring Kiki Palmer & Corbin Bleu from High School Musical), and he recently performed live with Rodney Sheppard (SUGAR RAY) on EXTRA TV (Host: Mark McGrath). Eeday’s music has also been featured in the soundtracks to the films Breaking the Rules (Miramax), Jamaica Beat, In Too Deep (Omar Epps, LL Cool J), Sandcastle (Alan Rudolph), Nuns On the Run (Eric Idle, Robbie Coltrane), and the hit series The Larry Sanders Show. Purchase Rise Up CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Gregory Isaacs Night Nurse CD (1982) Remastered
Rise Up album
$10.45 A classic release from one of Jamaica's greats, NIGHT NURSE shows the Cool Ruler at his best--performing melodic, chilled reggae such as the title track and "Hot Stepper." The title track was a hit for Simply Red when they covered it in 1997. Although at his most prolific in the mid '80s, when he was beset by financial problems, Isaacs managed to maintain the quality of his material as this album proves. The Roots Radics provide excellent backing for Isaacs' smooth vocals. Perhaps a bit too mellow for fans of more militant reggae such as that purveyed by the Revolutionaries, time has nevertheless proved this to be a classic reggae album--the epitome of the feel-good Jamaican sound.
Although his 1981 album, More Gregory, was picked up for international distribution, Gregory Isaacs' 1982 release, Night Nurse, was his first to be designed for an audience outside Jamaica. Accordingly, Island Records head Chris Blackwell upgraded the overall sound quality, making this Isaacs' most professional-sounding record yet, and he brought in synthesizer player Wally Badarou to overdub keyboard parts on the tracks, making them less spare and distinguishing ...

| | Jimmy Cliff Follow My Mind CD (1976)
Rise Up album
$12.05 Perhaps more than any other Jamaican singer, Jimmy Cliff always had his sights set on the international market, and while he obviously works from a reggae base, his sound -- featuring full productions often cushioned with strings -- completely defines what has come to be known as reggae-pop. Ironically, given that it was his contemporary Bob Marley who broke through to become reggae's icon, Cliff may not have sounded, in the end, Jamaican enough. Follow My Mind originally came out in 1975 on the heels of the U.S. release of the Harder They Come soundtrack (which featured a quartet of Cliff's finest songs, including the magnificent "Many Rivers to Cross"), and rode Harder's wake onto the lower reaches of the pop charts. But Follow My Mind was a smooth, polished album, with few of the charming rough edges that characterized Cliff's previous work with producer Leslie Kong (who died in 1971, shortly after the Harder soundtrack was completed), and while it definitely had a Jamaican lilt, it sounded as much like Marvin Gaye as it did Marley, and ultimately it was the ragged, gospel-fueled songs of The Harder They Come that ended up sticking in the public's memory. Not that Follow My Mind lacked solid performances. "The News" was Cliff at his persecuted, paranoid ...
