Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins followed up her 2004 debut, THE SOUND OF WHITE, with ON A CLEAR NIGHT in 2007. Earnest, emotional, and intimate, Higgins's music is folky and poppy at once, with most of her songs centering around her acoustic guitar, winding melodies, and confessional lyrics. There's a little bit of Ani Difranco in Higgins's tough-girl verbal skill the tune "100 Round the Bends," but the artist can also play the jazzy chanteuse on lovely, laid-back numbers such as "The Wrong Girl." The diverse palette works wonders paired with Higgins's top-notch tunesmithery. Missy Higgins On A Clear Night Songs On A Clear Night Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) Aussie girl with Attitude! This is the new "find". I love the diverse emotions throughout the songs. Whether it's kind of lonely sadness of The Wrong Girl to the sort of angry, angst of Peachy, you're in for a fun ride with Missy Higgins.
Here's what I suggest. Put this on and sink into a nice warm sudsy tub. It will take you away from your life for a while. Submitted by thriftyrocks (Phoenix, AZ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Missy Higgins On a Clear Night Will Move Your Soul Her voice is sultry. It's sexy. It warms my soul and makes me want to listen. I find myself humming along now and just relaxing. I hadn't heard of Missy Higgins until about a week ago. Now, she is all that I play while driving or just relaxing. Her "On A Clear Night" is an amazing tribute to her voice. The CD was recorded in Los Angeles with famed producer Mitchell Froom, who has worked with such legendary artists as Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow and Crowded House. Neil Finn of "Crowded House" plays guitar on "Peachy" and provdes backup vocals on Ms. Higgins song, "Going North". "Peachy" is upbeat and will have you movin'. I love the sarcastic lyrics. Her voice is strong and I find myself belting out the "of course you don'ts" right along with Ms. Higgins. "Warm Whispers" is soft and nearly haunting. The sound of this song is calm and feels as if you are being told a grand secret and seems to capture time in a bottle. Missy Higgins has a unique voice that I have yet to grow tired of. "Where I Stood". Is my favorite song on the album. I can relate to its lyrics. This is a must have album Submitted by julee_morrison (Salt Lake City, UT) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Undeniable talent In times of pop stars who become famous for being infamous while lip syncing to canned drone like synthetic music tracks, Missy Higgins is truly a beacon of light and hope for a new musical era. Although insanely popular in her native Australia, she is just beginning to grace America with her incredibly melodic voice and extraordinary song writing abilities. "On a Clear Night" is a sophomoric album that exceeds any sophomoric results. Her tracks are guitar based with strong, upbeat melodies. Her voice is that of a Siren, pure, sexy, soulful, pulling you in and leaving you mesmerized. Her songs reflect a young woman that is confident and comfortable in her own skin. "Where I Stand" is an addictive song that reflects the conflict of growing and moving on and wanting to stay in that old, comfortable place. "Steer" is a beautiful homage to being true to yourself. It draws you in from the first line and you are hooked. "On a Clear Night" is not an album that you simply buy for those two or three great songs. This is a CD that you will put on and listen in its entirety over and over again. Submitted by tricialeveretts (Someplace, VA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$9.59 The story behind Missy Higgins' "All for Believing," the young Australian singers' haunting, classically tinged piano ballad that launched her career, is the stuff of Hollywood dreams, even though the tale begins in a music class in Melbourne. At age 16, she had put off an assignment 'til the last minute and wrote the piece in a rushed half-hour before class. Her sister urged her to submit it to Unearthed, the national song competition run by the influential national alternative radio network Triple J -- and it won. When Los Angeles tastemaker KCRW started playing a live version of the song, Warner Bros. took interest and soon she was on her way to international stardom. Fortunately, she's not just a one-song sensation, as emotional and longing, more lushly produced tracks like "Ten Days" and the playful, folksy (and guitar ...

$11.29 In 2008 popster Natasha Bedingfield dropped a finely constructed, hook-filled effort in POCKETFUL OF SUNSHINE. Rootsy and groove-oriented, but with plenty of contemporary R&B studio polish (a combo especially evident on the reggae-inflected standout "Love Like This," featuring Sean Kingston), POCKETFUL ...

On A Clear Night CD music
$10.89 Buzz Cason has been writing and performing pop and country music for over 50 years now, and you can hear every year of experience and every mile of road in his rough, gritty voice. That's both good and bad -- his voice is quite expressive, but it's not very tuneful, and from listening to Hats Off to Hank you get the impression that many of these songs would have gone over better if they'd been delivered by one or more of the many other artists who have recorded his work in the past -- Jan & Dean, say, or U2, or even (heaven help us) Gloria Estefan. But it's also true that some of the songs themselves are just a drag -- it's not until the fourth track, the charming "Get Out of Town," that the tempo rises above a slow grind and the mood emerges from a gravelly gloom. "Barbecue," however, is a very fine ode to Texas cuisine, ...
