In 1914, Rudyard Kipling (David Haig) is at the peak of his literary fame and is the British Empire's greatest supporter. With World War I fast approaching, Kipling's son, Jack (Daniel Radcliffe), is determined to serve his country but finds himself rejected due to his extremely poor eyesight. When his father uses his influence to land Jack a commission in the Irish Guards, Kipling's wife, Caroline (Kim Cattrall), is bitterly upset, failing to see the glory in losing her only son to the war. In this searing drama, we witness Kipling's dire struggle between his two greatest passions: love for family and devotion to King and Country. Despite his weak eyesight, Rudyard Kipling's son Jack was determined to serve in the military during World War I. Unlike many parents, Kipling was adamant that his son have the opportunity to see action and uphold the values that were a constant motif in his writing. By way of influence Jack finally made it to the front, never to return, and Kipling would spend years of his life trying to uncover his son's fate. This Masterpiece Theatre production is the story of one aspect of the writer's life that was more tragic than anything depicted in his adventure stories. Daniel Radcliffe takes off Harry Potter's robes to star in this serious drama.

$23.15 After PRIDE AND PREJUDICE and ATONEMENT, Keira Knightley continues her reign as the queen of the period film with this 18th-century costume drama. The corset-clad actress stars as Georgiana Spenser, the Duchess of Devonshire. With her marriage to the duke (Ralph Fiennes), Georgiana achieves an impressive level of fame as Britons follow both her clothing style and her political advice. But even celebrity and wealth can't act as a salve in her marriage to the boring, boorish duke. When he begins to flaunt his affairs, Georgiana is tempted to return to a teenage crush, Charles Grey (Dominic Cooper of THE HISTORY BOYS), to the anger of her husband and her mother (Charlotte Rampling, SWIMMING POOL).
Fiennes's portrayal of the duke ranks roughly with his Lord Voldemort on a scale of beastly behavior, but the acclaimed actor manages to give him a level of humanity that far surpasses what he deserves. THE DUCHESS focuses on the lack of power possessed by Georgiana and, in fact, all women of her time, and the duke is the primary ...

$9.69 Director Rich Murray puts the Philadelphia hip-hop scene on the cinematic map with SNIPES, an urban crime thriller that breathes fresh life into the genre. Erik (Sam Jones III) is an ambitious teenager who spends more time posting flyers for his favorite rapper, Prolifik (Nelly), than sitting in the classroom. When he and his best friend stumble across a dead body one night, they trigger a series of tragic events. It turns out Prolifik, as well as the master tapes for his new record, have been kidnapped by a gang of thugs who want Bobby Starr (Dean Winters), the ruthless president of Prolifik's label, to dish out a meaty ransom. If he doesn't, they promise to make sure Bobby's ...

$13.55 In this fascinating documentary, filmmaker Amir Bar-Lev chronicles the rise and fall of child artist Marla Olmstead, the daughter of a dental hygienist and factory worker from upstate New York. Marla was all of four years old when she sold her first abstract painting. When the New York Times published a piece about her prodigious talent, she became an overnight media sensation, and her paintings quickly began to sell for up to five figures. While many lauded her amazing ability--and even likened her to Picasso--her success also sparked heated debates about the true value of abstract art.
Bar-Lev begins to explore this idea, as well as our culture's fascination with child prodigies, when the film suddenly takes a sharp and unexpected turn. The impetus is a piece on 60 MINUTES in which Charlie Rose suggests that Marla may not in fact be the sole creator of her work, and that her father--himself an amateur painter--is really the mastermind. The Olmsteads are stunned by the implication, and Marla quickly falls from grace with the art world. What follows is an unsettling but nonetheless riveting examination of Marla's ...
