Romantic Clarinet
$13.05 Folk songs performed with classical technique can sometimes have an uneven effect. The classical vocal ensemble Chanticleer avoids the pitfalls on WONDROUS LOVE, preserving the vigor of traditional arrangements in their adeptly nuanced and textured style.
Chanticleer's material comes from all over the world: Ireland, China, Russia, Cuba, Germany, Brazil, Ecuador and beyond. The arrangements are naturally more complex than the traditional arrangements, providing the strong voices within the group the opportunity to explore.
Several examples of American folk songs are included, ...
| | Don Campbell Music For The Mozart Effect Vol 1 - Strengthen The Mind CD (1998)
Romantic Clarinet
$13.35 The recordings on this disc were compiled and sequenced by Don Campbell.
The theory behind THE MOZART EFFECT is that pleasant-but-not-emotional, tuneful-in-the-upper-register music (according to research by Dr. Alfred Tomatis, which has shown that high frequency melodies stimulate the language centers in the brain) is conducive to organized thinking and therefore greater retention.
Mozart is not unique in having created this kind of music, but in his extensive output there are many examples to choose from. This album, along with the others in this series, was compiled and sequenced by Don Campbell, author of the companion book.
Even though this compilation ...
| | Elton John Live In Australia With The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra CD (1987) Remastered
Romantic Clarinet
$10.79 Elton John spent much of the '80s in a whirlwind of personal upheaval and his musical unevenness included working with lyricists besides Bernie Taupin (an unthinkable notion during their run at the top of the charts during the '70s). EJ went for a fresh start by auctioning off all the costumes and props that he'd become renowned for during his over-the-top live shows. Right before doing this, the flamboyant entertainer revisited the past one more time by recreating his greatest hits live using orchestral accompaniment.
The resulting LIVE IN AUSTRALIA found the John donning a powdered wig and 17th century garb to lead this ensemble, along with members of his regular touring band. Older material such as "Burn Down The Mission," "Madman Across The Water" and "Take Me To The Pilot" is particularly breathtaking as presented in all its symphonic splendor while more obscure numbers such as "Have Mercy On The Criminal" and "The Greatest Discovery" remain odd yet interesting choices. The oddest result of this album's release was that "Candle In The Wind" unexpectedly became a hit 14 years after its original release. A slightly rewritten version dedicated to the late Princess Diana repeated this trick a decade later.
-IMPORT In England, this has so far only been released as a limited, numbered (5,000) edition, in a 12 X 12 box with deluxe booklet and other goodies.
Since this 1987 release is the album that brought "Candle in the Wind" to the charts for the first time -- the song first released on Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and the song that John later reworked as a tribute to Princess Diana -- it's easy to think of this as a fairly standard live album, ...

| | James Taylor One Man Band CD (2007) With DVD
Romantic Clarinet
$18.65 With ONE MAN BAND, James Taylor becomes the third major musical icon, after Paul McCartney and Joni Mitchell, to sign with the Starbucks-affiliated music label Hear Music for a new releases. Unlike Mitchell and McCartney, Taylor is using his fresh start to take a well-deserved retrospective look over the course of his career. ONE MAN BAND is a two-disc set incorporating a live concert and a documentary DVD. The DVD is an exhaustive work directed by filmmaker Sydney Pollack that mixes new live concert material and interviews with rare archival footage, including both vintage television appearances and, appropriately for a documentary about an artist who has treated his musical career as a lifelong running autobiography, home movies and personal photographs. True to the album's title, the live concert on the CD features just Taylor's warm, mellow voice and his soulful, folk-influenced acoustic guitar. Recorded live in front of a hometown crowd in the hills of western Massachusetts, these 19 songs stretch back over 40 years, all the way to his first single, "Something in the Way She Moves," and include fine renditions of all his most beloved songs as ...

Romantic Clarinet
$9.05 In the four years between her 1998 debut VOICE OF AN ANGEL and her 2002 compilation PRELUDE: THE BEST OF CHARLOTTE CHURCH, the Welsh native blossomed from classical music prodigy to a mature talent who accrued quite a mastery of the pop idiom. Fans of Church's early work will be pleased to hear the inclusion of compositions by Orff ("In Trutina"), Franck ("Panis Angelicus"), Rossini ("La Pastorella"), and Bizet ("Habanera"). Truly goose-bump inducing moments come via renditions of "Amazing Grace" and "Ave Maria," which truly benefit from the purity of tone that rings true in Church's crystalline soprano.
Church's chemistry as a collaborator also shines as duets with Billy Gilman ("Dream a Dream") and Josh Groban ("The Prayer") count as major highlights on this anthology. Although the inclusion of "Just Wave Hello," (aka the "Ford Global Anthem"), smacks of the type of corporate commercial greed that's more about marketing than music, PRELUDE offers a solid overview of a major artist who has ...
