The political cataclysm of the nineties had resulted in the emergence of new democ-racies in Central and East Europe. The living memory of the revolution of 1956 had made Hungary a protagonist of such changes. A new Hungarian Republic was born. This signi-ficant historic event fundamentally and quickly reshaped our economic, social and cultural environment. However, the whole world is continuously changing and we are influenced by these changes. In such an ever-changing world, it is difficult to rely on certain values because our approach to tradition, considered beforehand permanent and constant, has also changed. In view of these facts, the conclusion is inevitable that we need to identify and to show the live, affirmable and valuable elements of our tradition; and to identify and to position ourselves in our language and in our world. While conceiving the Hungarian Concerto, the originators were guided by the oeuvre of world-famous composer, ethnomusicologist and pianist Béla Bartók. His spirituality and life-work convincingly prove that tradition and modernity are complementary categories. Knowing our native culture, folk-dances and folk-music, and proceeding from it, we can find our special, modern and topical way of artistic expression, our new language of stage dance. The performance of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble is a complex dance theater unique in the world; traditional folk-dance, folk-music, contemporary music, sophisticated stage equipment and an up-to-date dramaturgy are integral parts of a contemporary com-munal theater, however facilitating personal identification, representing universal values. The Hungarian Concerto reflects the unity of tradition and of modernity: the gorgeous variegation of Hungarian folk-music and folk-dance, the acrobatic virtuosity of men’s dances, the lyricism of girls’ dances, the charm of love reflected by twosome dances, pearls of vocal culture…The most beautiful, almost classic pieces of Hungarian folk-music, fine instrumental solos, fortes and pianos, a tremendous orchestral sound… A glorious and inspired scene. The Hungarian Concerto is a new performance of a new world. | | Pentangle Basket Of Light CD (1969)
Hungarian Concerto music CDs
$9.99 Though they had fellow British folk-rockers like Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span for company, Pentangle explored a musical world of their own design. Their all-acoustic sound combined traditional British folk with jazz, rock and Indian music, much as American groups like the Airplane and the Dead were mating their roots with other influences. BASKET OF LIGHT is perhaps the finest of Pentangle's excellent early recordings.
As always, the focal point is crystal-voiced singer Jacqui McShee, capable of giving peer Sandy Denny a run for her money. Master guitarists Bert Jansch and John Renbourn's interplay is magical throughout, and when they take to banjo and sitar respectively on "House Carpenter," they sound equally at home. Much of the jazz feel is provided by eminently ...
| | Vic Chesnutt At The Cut CD (2009) Digipak
Hungarian Concerto songs
$12.89 AT THE CUT reunites Vic Chesnutt with several of the collaborators who helped make his extraordinary 2007 album, NORTH STAR DESERTER, and while you can't force lightning to strike twice in the same place, Chesnutt and this group of gifted musicians have managed to create something similarly powerful and affecting that also has a personality of its own. With Howard Bilerman behind the recording console, Guy Picciotto helping with the production and arrangements, and members of Silver Mt. Zion Orchestra accompanying Chesnutt, this follows a similar template to NORTH STAR DESERTER, but AT THE CUT manages to sound more approachable and direct while still conjuring up striking and atmospheric clouds of sound that reinforce Chesnutt's melodies even while broadening their horizons into something grand, beautiful, ...

Hungarian Concerto music CDs
$12.69 Everyone is guided by voices. We hear them in our heads. We fear them, at times. They tell us what to want, who to be, or how to live. Voices are hard to ignore and more difficult to follow.Chris Steininger is no exception, though his "voice" assumes various forms. It first spoke to him in his hometown of Waterdown, Ontario where at age 17, he aspired to be a recording artist, bought a guitar and started vocal lessons at a local Burlington studio. Within a few months, Chris' voice showed up in original songs and he began to play local clubs, recreation halls, and campus bars with his band Colonel Chunk. While a part of the growing local mid-1990s alternative music scene in Hamilton and Burlington, the band caught the attention of several others pursuing the same goal - namely Finger Eleven, now a Platinum-selling modern rock act. Chris and F11 vocalist Scott Anderson formed a positive friendship and working relationship, playing several concerts together. Chris has also performed on bills featuring Treble Charger, Sianspheric and Idle Sons. The band Colonel Chunk went on to release the EP "Laying the Groundwork", which sold several hundred ...

| | House Cursed Treasons Stratagems & Spoils CD (2008)
Hungarian Concerto album
$9.35 We've all heard it; "I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die." Let's call that man the metal movement in Northern Nevada and up until now that man has lain dead with only the faint flutters of a full recovery. Only from such a desolate and weather ruined wasteland could a band as painstakingly assaulting as A House Cursed arise. Not content with pandering to the metalcore masses of the past years, the members of A House Cursed have all pursued their individual visions of extreme music; varying from black metal, to grind, to punk and thrash. It was only when these five souls united that it was apparent what Nevada needed; a metal band that would be all things to all people. The independently financed debut album "Treasons, Stratagems & Spoils" was recorded in June/July of 2006 with renowned producer Juan Urteaga (Vile, Exodus & Sadus) at Trident Studios in the San Francisco Bay Area. From previous ...
