| | Trina Still Da Baddest CD Trina Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
The fourth album by hip-hop artist Trina continues the Miami native's mission of stripped-down Southern rap with a lascivious twist from a female perspective. With guests that include Missy Elliott, Keyshia Cole, and Pitbull, as well as newcomers Qwote and Shonie, STILL DA BADDEST has no shortage of energy, but it's Trina's attitude and no-holds-barred delivery that carry the show. The lead-off single, "Single Again," is one of the standouts, as is the title track and "I Got a Bottle," on which Trina is joined by Missy Elliott.
Amp - Amended ProducThe Wire (p.63) - "BADDEST is a good and difficult and three-dimensional listen because her motives just aren't placeable and when they are, they wade in contradiction." Vibe (p.72) - "STILL DA BADDEST mixes empowerment anthems, strip-club scorchers and R&B ballads." | | Pink Funhouse CD (2008) Explicit
Still Da Baddest
$10.35 Pink's insistently hooky, attitude-filled pop-rock has kept the singer a fixture on the radio and on singles charts since the early 2000s. The artist's fifth effort, FUNHOUSE, doesn't tamper with the formula: Pink's powerhouse vocals and in-your-face approach, backed by stadium-sized production, are in full effect on all 12 tracks. Even though the album deals primarily with aftermath of her divorce and includes serious moments of self-confrontation like "Sober," fans needn't worry that Pink has lost any of her chutzpah.
If anything, there's an increased sense of confidence and newfound liberation on tracks like the chest-thumping "So What" and the mischievous, bouncing "Bad Influence." In softer moments, like the ballad "I Don't Believe You" and the soulful "One Wrong Foot," Pink channels her personal experience into expressions that carry no less strength or muscle. But FUNHOUSE is a pop album first and foremost, and its catchy choruses, rollicking beats, and memorable vocal performances won't disappoint.
Arrangers: Stevie Blacke; Ulf Janson; Henrik Janson.
Personnel: Pink (vocals, background vocals); Shellback (guitar, acoustic guitar, omnichord, keyboards, bass guitar, drums, percussion); Pete Wallace (guitar, piano, harmonium, bass guitar, programming); Max ...

$9.94 | | Al Jarreau Christmas CD (2008)
Still Da Baddest
$8.89 For the past few decades, Al Jarreau has established himself as a truly modern jazz singer, one for the post-fusion generation--those who grew up with the sounds of the cordial contemporary jazz of George Benson, Spyro Gyra, and Herbie Hancock. CHRISTMAS is Jarreau's first-ever collection of holiday songs on which he wraps his supple, honeyed vocal chords around some traditional Christmas classics. Jazz vocal combo Take 6 lend their voices for "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and the considered, varied arrangements of Jay Graydon and Jarreau himself keep the proceedings interesting.
Arrangers: Chris Walker ; Clare Fischer; Brent Fisher; Joe Turano; David Witham; Jay Graydon; Al Jarreau; Larry Williams ; Jorge Calandrelli.
Personnel: Al Jarreau (vocals, background vocals); Chris Walker (vocals, bass instrument, bass guitar, background vocals); Take 6 (vocals); Ross Bolton (guitar); Michael O'Neill (guitars, electric guitar, nylon-string ...
| | Ugk Too Hard To Swallow CD (1992)
Still Da Baddest
$8.99 Truth in advertising, Too Hard to Swallow is UGK before they got funked up, grinding over some minimal, hard beats that aren't as complementary to their delivery as the smoother production they would later favor. Still, thanks to members Bun B and Pimp C's ability to write memorable rhymes, the album -- which repeats some tracks from their impossible to find indie release The Southern Way -- is a winner with three mammoth singles so important to the UGK story. "Something Good" puts a crooked beat under Rufus' most popular number, "Use Me Up" tells its pissed-off tale over a Bill Withers sample, and "Pocket Full of Stones" is a classic tale of crack rocks, Cadillacs, and making bail. The mucho macho "Cramping My Style" is a fan favorite with "hump and dump" lyrics that didn't really play nice with radio, and the snide "I'm So Bad" is a great example of how well Pimp C can offend and amuse at the same time. While most will prefer the Kingz' later sound, this is some fans' favorite album thanks to its unforgiving punch and visceral, controversial, cop-killer lyrics. ~ David Jeffries

$20.95 | | Status Quo In Search Of The Fourth Chord CD (2007)
Still Da Baddest
$11.55 When a band has been recording for over 40 years, they are either still innovative and new or a parody of their former selves. Status Quo fall into the latter category with their 33rd album and 37th appearance in the charts (including hits compilations), In Search of the Fourth Chord, which was produced by Pip Williams, who had also produced the classics Rockin' All Over the World, Whatever You Want, and In the Army Now. For years the band had been derided for playing a style of boogie blues rock & roll with the obligatory three chords, and on this album, they fight back against the critics with tongues very firmly in cheek as they search for that elusive fourth chord, even, according to the cover art, enlisting the help of Indiana Jones, with both Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi, the mainstays of Status Quo, dressed as the intrepid explorer, with the graphics lifted directly from the Raiders of the Lost Ark trilogy. As for the music, it was more of what every fan had come to expect: head-banging, guitar-led, riff-heavy music with the band swaying up and down. Status Quo was never afraid to change their style, and "Electric Arena" is a slow blues number while "Hold Me" borrows a riff from Chris Rea's "Auberge." Although "Pennsylvania Blues Tonight" is a drum beat- and bass-led chugger with the guitars left very much in the background, "Tongue Tied" is an acoustic ballad reminiscent of their hit "Living on an Island," and "I Don't Wanna ...
