Audio Mixer: Simon Rhodes. Recording information: Todd-AO Scoring Studio, Studio City, CA. Based on a popular series of children's fantasy novels, THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES benefits from an orchestral score by veteran film composer James Horner (TITANIC, TROY). On tracks such as "Writing the Chronicles" and "Thimbletack and the Goblins," Horner effectively uses strings, horns, and woodwinds to capture the wonder of discovering a magical world, often recalling John Williams's work on the initial HARRY POTTER movies. James Horner's score for The Spiderwick Chronicles is suitably dramatic, if not particularly inspired. It seems odd that the composer who also provided the evocative score for Titanic wouldn't use the opportunity of a children's fantasy film to create at least one memorable theme, but that seems to be the case here -- unlike similar scores (John Williams' iconic music for the Harry Potter series comes to mind), there are no recurring movements on The Spiderwick Chronicles that signal or symbolize characters and plot twists. Despite its resemblance to some of Williams' more whimsical works, the score ends up feeling restrained and unable to keep up with the adventurous plot it's meant to accompany. The Spiderwick Chronicles sounds fine, but there isn't much heart in it. ~ Katherine Fulton Spiderwick Chronicles Soundtrack Music | List Price | $18.98 (You save $4.89) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, Soundtrack CDs | | Label | Lakeshore | | Orig Year | 2008 | | All Time Sales Rank | 118632 | | CD Universe Part number | 7603404 | | Catalog number | 33980 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Feb 05, 2008 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Producer | Simon Rhodes; James Horner | | Engineer | Tom Hardisty | | Recording Time | 71 minutes | | Additional Info | Original Soundtrack |

Spiderwick Chronicles Soundtrack
$12.65 Bama's finest hard-to-pin-down freak n roll superstars bring you a giant dose of 'what?' and 'did they really just do that?'. Bringing together elements of the past and future while punching current trends in the face, El Chupa Cobras bang out familiar phrases in completely unfamiliar ways. Imagine an alternate Earth where the machismo of metal and hardcore was replaced by an appreciation for good songs and a desire to just ROCK. That's where the Cobras are from (they just live in Montgomery for now). Consisting of past members of Ed Kemper Trio, Saragashum, Babydriver, and too many other bands to list, the Cobras' music is the culmination of years of isolation and experimentation. The rest of the world might not know it, but the Central Alabama scene has incubated for years and now it's time to hatch. The Cobras are the vanguard. Press Quotes: As part of "Hissy Fit": A 3-band review also featuring Black Cobra and Sweet Cobra, as reviewed by G.I. Joe's Cobra Commander.El Chupa Cobras, our final applicant, boast the dual guitar athleticism of Baroness, without the annoying Russian accent. And I'll bet they look surprisingly good in bikini's too. Their forays into technically proficient progressive punk are what we've come to expect from the fine Acerbic Noise Development organization, a like-minded ally in global subversion/domination. A dossier suggesting that ECC's music is "a culmination of years of isolation and experimentation" suggests not just the versatility and ruthlessness of a Zartan, but the non-comedic output of fellow snake enthusiast John Reis. Rating 8 of 10. -Decibel Magazine----------------------------"...ADD-riddled attitude and momentum...an intriguing style of rock n' riffs and punk demeanour that will have your attention..." - UNRESTRAINED!-----------------------------HellRide Music Review By Jay Snyder February 10, 2008Everything about El Chupa Cobras debut S/T record is a blink and you’ll miss it type of deal. The songs are short, fast and furious, never letting any part stick around for very long. Their sound is the punishing, charred flesh on the sidewalk rage of noise-rock coupled with a stiff upper of both punk n’ metal ethos to further dizzy the senses. Hiding somewhere in the heart of all their raucous noise is the beefy songwriting and hook laden, twin guitar synch of Sicbay’s finest material. If you think pretty crooning comes with the package then you best look elsewhere as vocalist/guitarist Kenny Johnson ...
