| | Miles Davis Kind Of Blue CD (1959) Bonus Track; Remastered
Interstellar Soul: Hits Favorites Out-Takes Demos CD music
$6.29 With BIRTH OF THE COOL, Miles Davis distilled a new tonal palette for jazz. As early as 1954, Miles reacted to the escalating chordal complexity of hard bop by fashioning an evocative blues based on a simple scalar pattern ("Swing Spring"). KIND OF BLUE was the ultimate fulfillment of this approach, with Miles providing his collaborators little more than outlines for melodies and simple scales for improvisation. By emphasizing the blues and the improvisor's melodic gifts, KIND OF BLUE precipitated a major stylistic development--modal jazz.
Charles Mingus had experimented with pedal points throughout the 1950s, and the melodic freedom of Ornette Coleman's Atlantic sides was also predicated on freedom from chord changes. But KIND OF BLUE was to prove the most influential, enduring work of its kind. There was just such a vibe about these 1959 sessions--Miles' lyric genius and burgeoning stardom, ...

| | Incredible Jazz Guitar Of Wes Montgomery CD (1960) SACD Hybrid
Interstellar Soul: Hits Favorites Out-Takes Demos CD music
$15.19 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
John "Wes" Montgomery taught himself to play at the age of nineteen and created a style as influential to jazz guitar as was Charlie Christian's to an earlier generation. Recorded in the early part of his solo career, THE INCREDIBLE JAZZ GUITAR OF WES MONTGOMERY defined standards for hard bop guitar which are as cogent today as they were in 1960.
The album jumps out with the quartet hustling through Sonny Rollins' "Airegin," where Wes performs his often imitated licks with grace and agility. His extended phrases, thematic development, harmonic and melodic embellishment come together in a formidable technique with a heavy swing. An impressive use of octaves and chords coupled with the rejection of a guitar pick in favor of his own thumb allowed Wes' guitar to sing with warmth and with beauty. The lyrical rendition of "Polka Dots And Moonbeams" and his own "D-Natural Blues" are prime examples of the fullness of his lines. To this day, whenever a guitarist uses octaves he runs the risk of comparison to Wes, such was his mastery of this technique. Another aspect of his legacy is the compositions. Since their appearance on this ...

| | Jeff Beck Who Else! CD (1999)
Interstellar Soul: Hits Favorites Out-Takes Demos CD music
$5.95 Jeff Beck's first all-instrumental album in a decade finds him tossing a few contemporary peppers into his pot of musical virtuosity. Reuniting once again with GUITAR SHOP keyboardist Tony Hymas, Beck maintains a balance between contemporary, Art Of Noise-flavored tracks ("Space For The Papa," "TX138") complete with delays, techno beats and looped guitars, and a reunion with '70s fusion running buddy Jan Hammer on the heavier, Van Halen-esque "Even Odds." Beck's musical range continues to impress ...

Interstellar Soul: Hits Favorites Out-Takes Demos album
$16.39 If Carole King and Paul McCartney decided to write songs for Steely Dan, and the BeeGees were brought in to produce (but they weren\'t allowed to sing), it might sound something like \"Clouds And Fire\", the ambitious new project from Scott Riggan.\"Pop music has been kind of stagnant for awhile,\" observes Scott. \"I know I\'m not the only one who\'s bored with everything on the radio. I hope this CD will appeal to grown ups who worry less about how \'hip\' their music is and more about whether they actually like it. \"And so far, it appears a lot of people 'actually like' Scott's music. Starting with his history-making ...
