The Newcastle quartet's debut album followed hard on the heels of two superlative hit singles. Beyond a passing affection for a Slade-style stomp, "Don't Do That" and "All Because of You" have little in common with the then-prevalent glam sound, but still their pounding hard rock ethos slipped effortlessly into the mood of the day, to portray Geordie as the unabashed hard rockers that even the teenies could enjoy. (Nazareth pulled off a similar coup around the same time.) Following in those same stack-heeled footsteps, Hope You Like It makes few concessions to the band's newfound fame, a raw and raucous slam through 11 songs that only let the bombast slip when they fall into the closing clown time of the traditional "Geordie's Lost His Liggie," a mad singalong that is absolutely captivating. ~ Dave ThompsonMojo (Publisher) (p.122) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "The band drummed up an exciting, chart-denting platform-stomp on 'All Because Of You'..." Hope You Like It album
$10.39 Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece REIGN IN BLOOD; it shared the earlier album's ferocious aggression and trademark speed metal-meets-hardcore sound. Throughout, the sound is lean and mean, with bassist/vocalist Tom Araya's vocals mixed relatively dry and upfront, giving the album a bracing, fist-to-the-face force. Jackhammer tracks such as "Hate Worldwide" and "Psychopathy Red" are short, no muss-no fuss blasts ...

Hope You Like It CD music
$13.15 Dutch pomp-metal band Epica, fronted by classically trained mezzo-soprano Simone Simons, released their second album for Nuclear Blast only a year after their label debut, the more unique The Classical Conspiracy. That two-disc live set found them performing a mix of classical works and their own songs with backing by a full orchestra and choir. This album offers more of their bombastic goth metal songs, with Simons' vocals floating atop an ever flowing stream of complicated drumming, epic riffs, and shredtastic solos. The use of orchestral ...

Hope You Like It album
$12.45 While Anvil never really got the chance to make a bid for mainstream success, and it's too late now -- they've got an affectionate documentary about themselves, the success of which has gotten them a deal to release this album, but the industry just doesn't make stars anymore, certainly not in metal. The best Anvil can hope for is that they'll be able to go out (or carry on for a few more years, if they choose to do so) with some self-respect. Luckily, THIS IS THIRTEEN is more than good enough to achieve that goal. The production by Chris Tsangarides, who worked with the band in the early '80s, showcases their still impressive instrumental skills, and while the lyrics range between functional and boneheaded, Steve "Lips" Kudlow's voice is powerful, reminiscent of Ian Gillan on the more midtempo material and Suicidal Tendencies' ...
| | Tool 10,000 Days CD (2006)
Hope You Like It CD music
$11.75 To its legion of fans, everything the band Tool does is an event, but the elaborate plan behind their sporadic release schedule--roughly five years, on average, between albums--is due primarily to the time and effort the band packs into each successive effort. To title their fourth album 10,000 DAYS, then, isn't as much an exaggeration as it would seem. Tool are America's most consummate mainstream perfectionists, revitalizing progressive rock to the grandeur of its '70s heyday, but updated with technocratic tension and existential dread not known to previous generations. Perhaps it's the development of more musical genres at the turn of the millennium, but it's also Tool's ability to take what is needed from each and leave the florid excesses behind, forming a seething gray core of angst and release across epic-length songs that are as accessible as they are complex. The material on 10,000 DAYS ...

Austin's work melds the influences of Jaco Pastorious, early Chicago and Steely Dan into a modern day pop fusion of acid jazz similar to genre pioneer Liquid Soul, the live jam sessions of the Dave Matthews Band and the solo work of Sting and Phil Collins also come to mind when listening to the Mark Austin Band. The Mark Austin Band has found its formula for success; when people hear their music they can't keep still, it's that simple. So put your soul's finger on the cosmic trigger and give it a squeeze. Instantly you will be shot into a dimension of musical emotion where you feel the tranquil peace of rhythmic harmony. Follow the horns through the ethereal plains searching for the source of the beat, which is the rhythm of life. Get lost in the guitar as you feel the aura of the bass. Roam the melody lines, somersault over the chords, and swim in the sound waves; because after all, it is all about having fun.Mark Austin BandMusic from the spirit for the soul.A Dallas, Texas Based 7 piece Original Music Band Utilizing Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals, Percussion, And A Horn Section; Packaged In A Spirit Of Creativity That Is Much Greater Than The Sum Of Its Members, Who Conspire To Foreshadow A Higher Universal Reality, To Crystallize The Musical Emotions Of Time Into The Thought Of What Alone Is Real. The band consists of Mark Austin on bass and vocals, ...

Hope You Like It CD music
$9.59 While Black Flag created an enormous shadow for Henry Rollins to crawl out from beneath, his time in the band also served as the perfect boot camp for his searing second act. LIFE TIME is Rollins Band at the absolute peak of their tempestuous hard-blues powers, with Henry himself in the eye of the storm. "Burned Beyond Recognition" and "What Am I Doing Here" form a furious one-two punch to start the record, and the intensity and focus rarely let up from there. While Rollins's total commitment ...
