| | Candlebox Alive In Seattle CD Candlebox Discography of CDs
Post-grunge mainstays Candlebox followed up their 2008 studio release INTO THE SUN with a live album, released the same year, which finds them back in their hometown. It's an appropriate homecoming since Candlebox has always stayed the sonic course that originated with native city pioneers Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam. While Candlebox's sound may have been more commercial than their first-wave brethren, this live set, which features a mix of old and new material, packs more grungy punch than their sometimes too-clean studio efforts.

Alive In Seattle music CDs
$7.69 All songs written by Joe Jackson except "T.V. Age" (Jackson/Steve Tatler).
This is the album where Jackson starts showing off his compositional and instrumental chops. By 1982 he had moved to New York, where he developed a great love of Latin music. Perhaps spurred by his 1981 jump blues outing JUMPIN' JIVE, Jackson again stepped away from his rock & roll past, this time with some outstanding original tunes. NIGHT AND DAY merges Latin sounds with pop, jazz and classic Gershwinesque melodic elegance. It contains the most mature and instantly satisfying compositions of Jackson's career.
The Latin percussion of Sue Hadjopoulos and Jackson' own salsa-tinge piano provide continuity throughout the album. In what was a revolutionary move for a pop-rock artist at the time, Jackson jettisoned his guitarist in favor of a second keyboardist, and the piano, organ and synthesizer textures provide much of the meat for the arrangements. Alternately propulsive and reflective, NIGHT AND DAY reflects the concerns of an Englishman in New York City in the early '80s, but the album's biggest hit "Steppin' Out" is a graceful, synth-flavored love ballad that's as timeless as great pop songs get.
Jackson's great New York album, full of atmosphere, high-quality musicianship and mature arrangements, put him way beyond the pop of his first two albums. The cosmopolitan flavour is captured on the Latin-styled "Cancer," Jackson's romantic nature is exposed

| | Alablaster Ancient Ruins, Modern Inventions CD (2001)
Alive In Seattle songs
$8.69 Instantly brimming with crunchy, meaty guitar chords and quirky lyrical topics, this record starts off with a brief homage to Elvis Presley in "The Rave in Sharka Park." Unfortunately, this is dampened by a bland hip-hop pop rap on "Kriminal Booty," sounding like Everclear's "Wonderful." Appearing much more able when refraining from a quick rap rhyme such as on the pedestrian and formulaic "Meet Me Tonight on Planet Earth," the group seems to be lacking a certain energy early on. The hard-rocking "Blown Away" blows the listener away. Jangle pop songs such as "Staring at Cowboys" really work on the album, but a few others miss the mark. Meshing the better elements of college-oriented alternative rock with the radio-friendly traits of modern rock groups such as Third Eye Blind and Sugar Ray, the group has created a generally decent and satisfactory album. And you can't find fault with the power punk touch on "Horace Was a Resistor." ~ Jason MacNeil
Politics and social issues, once the domain of folkies, fueled hippie rock and then punk in decades past. Some hip-hop artists still talk about community concerns. But except for reactions to the attacks of last September (notably by Neil Young & Bruce Springsteen), and with rare exception ...
