| | Hollies Epic Anthology CD Hollies Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
This 20 track collection contains all of The Hollies hits on Epic, beginning with Carrie-Anne, plus LP tracks and non-LP B-sides. The CD is mastered from the original master tapes, which were found in England.
Includes liner notes by Al Quaglieri, Ron Richards & Allan Clarke.
EPIC ANTHOLOGY is a long-overdue remastered version of some of the Hollies' best songs, from the period between 1967 and 1975. The disc is especially noteworthy for the songs featuring Graham Nash-"Carrie Anne," "Jennifer Eccles," "King Midas in Reverse," and "Dear Eloise." The original American versions of these tracks were swathed in superfluous echo. For reasons known only to some tone-deaf executive at Epic Records, the effect was somehow supposed to render the songs more commercially appealing (Capitol Records did the same thing to early Beatles albums). For this re-package, the original English masters-complete with occasional studio chatter-were used, and the results are stunning. Stripped of the extraneous sonic murk, these songs really soar. Liner notes include an informative interview with original Hollies producer Ron Richards.
The Hollies: Allan Clarke (vocals, harmonica); Mikael Rickfors (vocals); Tony Hicks (guitar, banjo); Graham Nash, Tony Hicks, Terry Sylvester (guitar); Bernie Calvert (bass); Bobby Elliott (drums). | | Loggins & Messina Mother Lode CD (1974)
Epic Anthology songs
$5.95 By the time Loggins & Messina released a follow-up to their biggest record yet, 1973's FULL SAIL, there was some pressure on the pair to repeat their success. They hadn't stumbled yet, but one can sense from their grim expressions in the cover photo that the mood has taken a turn for the darker.
Nevertheless, the record begins on a bouncy, ear-friendly note, with the lite pop of "Growin'," a Loggins tune ...
| | Mission Of Burma Signals, Calls And Marches CDs (1981) Bonus DVD; Remastered
Epic Anthology album
$15.39 One of America's most important, but most frequently overlooked, punk rock bands, Mission Of Burma released only a handful of records before it disbanded. 1981's SIGNALS, CALLS, AND MARCHES was its debut EP following a seven-inch single, both tracks from which are included on this Ryko CD reissue.
"That's When I Reach for My Revolver," built on Peter Prescott's powerful drumming and Clint Conely's heavy bass guitar, is an incisive look at the moment you realize that what you've been taught and what you know are different things. "Fame & Fortune" features a propulsive drum beat and Roger Miller's jagged guitar work, laced with controlled feedback. Another classic, "This is Not a Photograph," highlights scalding, scalpel-sharp guitars, and ends with a faked record skip. The album's last track, "All World Cowboy Romance," is a pretty, five-minute long instrumental with a number of complex strands and few of the jarring breaks that characterize some of the material preceding it. The two tracks from the band's first seven-inch include the spectacular, frequently covered "Academy Fight Song," one of the all-time high points in American ...
| | Peter Moren The Last Tycoon CD (2008)
Epic Anthology CD music
$13.05 On his first solo album, THE LAST TYCOON, Peter Moren of the lauded Swedish indie-rock trio Peter Bjorn and John unveils a laid-back folk-influenced set. These 10 spare tracks provide an excellent showcase for the singer/guitarist's slightly raspy, John Lennon-like vocals and subdued yet assured songcraft, as best revealed on the wistful "Tell Me in Time" and the plaintive "Social Competence." Though some PB&J fans may miss the band's tight, punchy sound, that's ...
